Wine packaging is built around a familiar visual language—centered typography, crests, serif lettering, and a clear hierarchy of information. Wilson Creek keeps those traditional cues intact, but changes the character of the package through one unexpected element: color.
The design called for a deep cobalt blue bottle, but the sparkling wine format wasn’t available in colored glass. Rather than compromise the concept, Monvera recreated the effect by spray coating the bottle in a rich cobalt blue.
The color becomes the foundation of the design, giving the Sparkling White Cabernet Sauvignon a distinctive presence before a single word is read. White and silver decoration sits cleanly against the saturated surface, intentionally restrained so it doesn’t compete with the glass itself. The contrast between the bold bottle color and traditional typography creates the tension that makes the package work—unexpected in its use of color, yet unmistakably rooted in the visual language of wine.

The Wilson Creek crest reinforces this relationship between surface and decoration on a much smaller scale. Printed in two colors, the central monogram is knocked out to reveal the cobalt blue beneath, making the bottle itself part of the mark. Precise registration around the fine white outlines keeps the shield crisp and defined, while the exposed blue visually connects the crest to the surface beneath it.
That interplay between traditional and unexpected carries through the entire package. Wilson Creek doesn’t abandon the familiar language of wine packaging; instead, it introduces one strong departure and allows it to reshape everything around it. The cobalt blue surface creates the distinction, while the crest, typography, and restrained use of white and silver maintain a sense of familiarity and structure.
The result demonstrates how color coating can function as more than a finish. When considered alongside the printed decoration, the surface becomes part of the graphic system itself—working with color, negative space, and precisely registered details to create a more integrated bottle design.
