Solectrac, Inc., located in Northern California, has developed and distributes 100% battery powered, all electric tractors for agriculture and utility applications. Solectrac tractors provide an opportunity for farmers around the world to power their tractors from the utility grid or by using the sun, wind, and other clean renewable sources of energy. Farmers are now independent of the pollution, infrastructure, and price volatility associated with fossil fuels.
The company grew out of Founder and CEO, Stephen Heckeroth’s commitment to providing an alternative to fossil fuels with 25 years of experience building electric tractors and converting vehicles to electric. In 2014, Solectrac was awarded a 3-year research and development grant by the India-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF). With the final prototype produced, Solectrac won a second grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to commercialize the production of all-electric tractors.
On Octorber 20, 2020, Ideanomics invested $1.3 Million in the company, acquiring 15% of Solectrac Electric Tractors. Solectrac was a finalist at Food Funded, an Entrepreneurship and Investor Fair held on June 6, 2019 at the Presidio in San Francisco. And in the same month, Solectrac was nominated for an Innovation Award at the Farm Progress Show held in Regina, SK, Canada from June 19-21, 2019. In September 2019, Solectrac received the Escorts 2019 Innovation Award.
Solectrac Electric Tractors has been awarded the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label in July 2020. The Solar Impulse Foundation is an organization “boosting the adoption of profitable solutions to protect the environment.” In addition to engaging with government, institution and decision makers, the Foundation though the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions is labeling 1,000 of the most efficient and profitable solutions that can transition society to being economically viable while being environmentally sustainable. Solectrac just joined their ranks with its electric tractors.
