Are You Prepared for the Summer Season?

The summer months are a good time for wineries. More people are traveling, and more people are interested in visiting your winery. Summer is the time for people to take their holidays. During this holiday time, they are more likely to participate in activities that they haven’t tried before, such as wine tasting. It is important to realize that during the summer you are more likely to get visitors who have never been to your winery, or for that matter to any winery.

When people you do not recognize come into your winery, make sure you greet them and make them feel comfortable. Those people who do not know a lot about wine or wine tasting may feel out of place. It is your job to make sure they relax and enjoy their visit. Even if they live at the other end of the country. If they enjoy themselves, they will still talk about the experience to their friends and encourage them to visit if they are ever in your area.

You also want to make sure that your first-time guests learn something interesting about your wines and your winery that they do not already know. Notice I said that they should learn something interesting, something that they will not have already been told at another winery.

Is there something out of the ordinary about the wines you make, a person or people who work at the winery, or the building itself? Think about the things other wineries in the area are saying and go for something different. If you don’t know what your neighboring wineries are saying, find out. Consider a tasting room staff meeting where you ask your staff what makes your winery different from others. Also, ask your best customers why they like your winery.

 Other Seminars & Training

Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.

E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.

In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997.  Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.
