What Is Your Plan to Sell Wine?

There are many different types of guests who will visit your tasting room to taste and (hopefully) buy wine from you. However, that does not mean that these customers are all interested in the same things or that they should be treated in the same way. Your guests are all individuals, with individual reasons to buy or not buy your wine.

If you are presenting the same information in the same way to every guest, it is probable that a good number of these guests will not buy from you, as you may not have touched upon the reasons that would make them buy.

Some of your guests are more interested in focusing on building a relationship with you and expecting you to build a relationship with them. They want to know about your wines and winery and how being a part of the winery, attending events, and buying wine will make their lives better.

These are the people who are interested in the wines, the winery, and the people who own it or work there. They want to create a relationship and enjoy interacting with you. They buy your wine because of the connection they have created with you and the wines. You may also share your experience with the wines, letting them know that you drink the wines at home and with friends.

The analytical guests who visit your winery are more interested in statistics and facts about the wine than they may be in aromas. It may be that they want to know how many medals the wine has won in competitions, or how many cases you make of each wine. If they don’t know much about your wines, present some educational points that they can repeat to others.

Next week - more information on different types of customers.

 Other Seminars & Training

Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.

E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.

In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997.  Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.

"In Short Direct Marketing is an essential business tool." - Maureen Hendrikson, Patit Creek Cellars
