Gary Gouger of Gouger Cellars shares "I don't really see any advantage that the oak barrel has over the Flextank. After about 2 years the pores in a inside of a barrel start to become plugged up and you have to use hot steam and lots of chemicals in order to get those deposits off, or you have to get them resurfaced...another added expense."

Maturation Weight: OTR of 9 mg/liter/year, similar to a 2-year old barrel. A great choice for fermenting and maturing red wines.

Heavyweight: OTR of 6 mg/liter/year, similar to a neutral barrel. The ideal choice for white wines, ciders and spirits.
