Wineglobe and Bouchard Cooperages Announce Collaboration for Representation in the US and Mexico

Wineglobe and Bouchard Cooperages are pleased to announce a collaboration for representation in the US and Mexico while continuing limited involvement with Jaimee Motley from Jaimie Motley Wines and Fassbinderei Stockinger.

The Bouchard Cooperages non-oak vessel portfolio includes vessels made from concrete, sandstone, terracotta, cocciopesto, stainless steel and now premium borosilicate glass adds Paolo Bouchard.

Wineglobe, produced in Bordeaux France by the Paetzold family are single-piece glass globes that range from 25L – 400L with the most popular sizes being 115L and 220L which allows for the purest expression regarding terroir-driven wines. The Wineglobe was created in 2015 and in 2020 received the famous Vinitech Innovation Trophy award. Today, it represents the ultimate reference high-end cutting-edge vessel found in the most prestigious of cellars for the fermentation and aging of white and rosé wines and the aging of reds.

Wineglobes have been shown to produce unique wines that are totally different from those fermented and aged in wood, concrete, or steel vats. The natural features of the fruit, vineyard, and terroir are exposed in a way that is completely distinctive, and unique and produces wines of purity and perfume.

Over 500 customers are using Wineglobes in some of the most famous cellars including:

  • Burgundy: Michelot, Vincent Dancer, Benjamin Leroux, Bonneau de Martray, Clerget, Ballot Millot, Nicolas Rossignol, Lamy, Arnaud Ente, and Perrot Minot (pioneers of the early trials and significant user)
  • Champagne: Savart, Calsac and Agrapart
  • Bordeaux: Clos Manou, Château Corbin and Domaine de l’A
  • Loire: Daganeau and Chidaine.
  • Rhône: Combier, Maxime Graillot, David Reynaud, and Mathieu Barret
  • Others: Domaine Vaccelli (Corsica), Gérard Bertrand (Provence), Domaine Ott (Provence)

Since the 18th century, wine has been entrusted to glass bottles. Because of its neutrality, glass is known and recognized as a harmonious wine-aging vessel that enables the full expression of your grapes and site.

Borosilicate glass is used for making Wineglobes which is the purest, strongest, and most resistant type of glass allowing for the globes to be inert, smooth, impermeable, neutral, and unaltered over time.

A range of stainless steel, teflon, and concrete accessories, stands and fabric coverings for protecting the Wineglobes from light make the Wineglobes extremely winemaker-friendly and easy to use.

Wineglobes oenological points of interest include:

  • Allow for terroir and varietal-based wines
  • Wineglobes are oxygen-proof; however, their sphere shape allows for the wine to stay in constant motion, be dynamic and alive, and avoid being reduced.
  • Wineglobes can be used as a blending component together with barrels to understand specific terroirs and parcels
  • An extremely versatile vessel for white, red, rosé, sparkling base or skin contact wines and can be used for vinification and long-term aging

Advantages of glass as a material include:

  • Glass is an eternal, noble, and a long-lasting material
  • Glass has a thermal conductivity close to that of concrete allowing for good temperature stability
  • Transparency so that lees sedimentation, wine turbidity, and malolactic fermentation can be observed and better understood
  • No release of elements into the wine
  • Elimination of headspace
  • Flawless hygiene
  • No loss nor topping is needed, therefore, decrease in SO2 usage between 25% to 50%
  • Easy and simple to clean hence requiring less water

Wineglobes have an infinite lifespan, are very easy to clean, and barring any accidents can be used forever. The excellent Wineglobe’s Website and Instagram page can be used for more information.

The Company Story:

Vincent Bouchard founded Bouchard Cooperages in 1979 on one basic principle:  to give Winemakers access to the finest custom-fabricated French oak barrels - in time for harvest and at minimal expense - year after year.

Since then, there have been a lot of changes in the barrel business, and Bouchard Cooperages has been at the forefront of much of the innovation (studies on toast levels, forest origin, and the geography of stave aging, as well as the introduction of the silicone bung and the shrink-wrapping of barrels).  In 2009, we began experimenting on the true effect of atmospheric conditions on stave aging.  Our goal is to determine precisely when staves are ready for barrel fabrication, depending on specific geographic and climatic factors (a 3-year aged stave may not be ready if there was a drought for 2 of those 3 years).  Last year we also introduced the "electronic signature," effectively allowing our Winemakers to approve orders from their laptops or smart phones.  And this year, all of our Coopers began emailing their invoices in an effort to not only save paper, but to save our Customers time and money with accounts payable processing.

Through all of these changes, our core principle remains the same.  We pride ourselves in developing long-term relationships with both our Winemakers and our Coopers.  We believe it is only through this on-going collaboration that we can help Winemakers to consistently realize their winemaking passion.

Simply said, we are forever committed to helping our Coopers craft a better barrel, and to helping our Winemakers craft a better wine.  Our team of Sales Consultants pride themselves on meeting with Winemakers, tasting through their wines, and helping them find the best match for a particular varietal, terroir, and individual winemaking style.

With over 30 years of experience and a global presence, we are also experts in logistics – from container consolidation to exchange rate fluctuation risk management - firmly committed to unparalleled customer service.
