TANKTEMP DUO™ DX RAPID DIRECT-EXCHANGE HEATER / CHILLER
TANKTEMP DUO™ DX RAPID DIRECT-EXCHANGE HEATER / CHILLER
Tanktemp first introduced the only-of-its-kind DUO-DX™ in 1984. The DUO-DX™ has since become the go-to weapon of choice for hundreds of wineries (and all of those units are running, right now). The DUO-DX™ is NOT a glycol device, but rather exchanges heat directly with whatever product you point it at and pass through it. The DUO-DX™ simply allows you to do things you can’t with a glycol system. This thing is fast as hell, we start and stop fermentation on a dime.
TANKTEMP ICEBERG DUO™ HC-51/53 GLYCOL HEAT OR CHILL
TANKTEMP ICEBERG DUO™ HC-51/53 GLYCOL HEAT OR CHILL
The ICEBERG DUO™ LIQUID HEAT PUMP™ HEATER/CHILLER HC series feature our Liquid Heat Pump™ in ultra-heavy-duty combination heating/chilling units. Allowing you to heat OR chill with one device, and delivering up to 60,000BTU, these units easily meet the high-volume demands of your facility.
A Toast to Chiller Maintenance and Summer Heat

System Audit

Ever wonder if you have enough chilling power? We can do a full audit of your system and tell you approximately how many BTUs per hour you have and what you need to meet your demand. If you have a glycol system, you want us to take care of it for you. A good amount of our work is fixing what someone else did. What works in other installs doesn’t work in a glycol system.
We can do this over the phone or in person. Reach out and we can make sure you’re on track for your 2020 goals.
We do full CAD designed and engineered installs. Tanktemp, one group from start to finish.

Opening Up and Getting Back to It
01 May, 2020

We are all feeling the economic impacts from COVID-19. Tanktemp has over 3,000 active clients, and if you are reading this you are one of the 18,000+ that signed up for our newsletter. If you know someone who should be reading our stuff forward this on. Every day we work with folks just like you and solve problems you all face. We listen to what is happening with your businesses, and a lot of you are friends we hang out with outside of work. These newsletters are responses to the most asked questions we get every month.

We hear you, and we understand you.

IT’S TIME TO MAKE AMERICA DRINK CRAFT AGAIN!

The world is slowly starting to open back up, but the future is not as clear as it was 60 or 90 days ago. You all have found new ways to do business, new challenges to tackle, and new realities. Your customers have changed their habits, and your 2020 plans need adjustment. But people still want your products, so let's keep you producing what they need. You need solutions to navigate 2020.

We are members of several industry groups and we’re seeing some great advice being shared. The Brewers Association nailed it with their CHECKLIST FOR REOPENING GUIDE. This is good for breweries, wineries, distilleries, etc. They covered things we didn’t even think of, so we are sharing that. Nice work guys!

LET’S GET SOCIAL

Your customer base has moved, so stay with them! As things open, we are seeing limits on occupation, and a slow return to normal patterns. Your customers can't come to you like they once did, but the world is creating new opportunities.

Consumers are adapting quickly; online sales, delivery, virtual tasting, online bottle shops, actual bottle shops, taprooms-to-go, wine/beer clubs, drive thru, plus a ton of other great tools are helping get you to your customers.

People didn't go to breweries or wineries just to drink, they went for the experience. Work on ways to create that. During this time of social distancing, more and more people are relying on social media to stay connected and current. Digitally let them into your world. You are more than beer or wine to them.

Check out our Instagram. We are supporting a group every day. Like and share the post and start your own daily support campaign. Little actions have big impacts.

As we’ve encouraged more of you to invest in social, we’ve heard some groups are concerned when their posts don’t get a ton of likes. Bear in mind the post may not have gotten clicked, but the post was seen. Remember, people don’t click everything on social media, but they still might like it. Need proof? Here it is, I got more texts, emails, and calls about our new campaign than I did likes on the page.

We made a ton of these and a lot of you see them. There are a million articles about “how to make social media work” the first step is to be social. Post, like, comment and respond. This is what is working for us.

Operating Your Brewery or Winery During COVID-19
16 April, 2020

The way forward...

All our 2020 planning is on hold, so let's move our growth plan out and make “We are all in this together '' more than a phrase. We have always been in IT together.

We have seen customers close their doors, some forever, and watched everyone suffer the impact of the current events. We have also seen an outpouring of support for the industry. Many of you are reflecting back to why you started in this industry to guide how you move forward.

We all came to the brewery and winery industry because this is what we wanted to do. We knew we weren’t going to write the great American novel, but we also knew there was more to life than buying something for a dollar and selling it for two. We hoped to create something which could be held to the highest standards, and we succeeded. The more we all know about each other, the greater the chance we will survive.

We’re here for you

Tanktemp is supporting a brewery or winery everyday on social media by purchasing and featuring one of your amazing products. It has been fun to see the support grow from all our followers. We believe the more groups can promote each other, the bigger the impact we will have. Our industry is known for supporting each other, and now more than ever supporting each other is crucial.

Follow us on social media to see who we’re featuring next. Who knows, it could be you.

HOW DO WE OPERATE IN THIS NEW ENVIRONMENT?

This has been the hot topic of my calls with you.

DEMAND

2020 is not going to look like 2019. Even in all this, people are looking for new ways to exist and live their lives. Breweries and wineries offer a way for people to be social while still social distancing.

The data is showing that people are drinking more beer and wine now than they did, and you are in demand. Despite this, the data is showing that some industry players won’t recover or have already closed. Check out this article from WineBusiness.com: Winery Hiring Pauses but Sales Rise

YOUR CUSTOMER BASE MOVED, STAY WITH THEM!

Your customers can't come to you like they once did, but the world is creating new opportunities. Consumers are adapting quickly; online sales, delivery, virtual tasting, online bottle shops, actual bottle shops, taprooms-to-go, wine/beer clubs, drive-thrus, plus a tons of other great tools are helping get you to your customers.

People didn't go to breweries or wineries just to drink, they went for the experience. Work on ways to create that.

VIRTUAL MEETUPS ARE FUN.

Last week I sent 10 of my buddies beers, set up a Zoom meeting and got caught up. Did the same with the family through a Family Happy Hour. Everyone is looking for ways to stay in touch. Build this package for your customers.

We use Zoom a lot for work, why not social? Promote these tools, set up a link to order online, a link to the video chat meeting site and people can each buy a bottle or 2, and catch up with their friends and family. Customers are adjusting to the current world.

Some helpful options for distribution.

https://drizly.com

https://www.saucey.com

A lot of these tools will remain great avenues for your future.

PRODUCTION

Watch your supply chains and new regulations. These are the new hurdles of the day and the struggles we will face next. The biggest thing we see is working out how to change procedures so that workers can stay farther apart.

As an example we expect refrigeration compressors to be in limited supply this year too. Check out this article from Brewers Association on The Potential Shortfall of Available C02

PROXIMITY

A considerable challenge for an industry that typically relies on teams harvesting crops together in close quarters is social distancing. Below are some of the topics we’re watching and discussing.

  • Workers: will we have them? New guidelines for everything here.
    • Field workers
    • Crush help
    • Shipping/Transport
    • Returning servers
  • Harvesting methods and concerns: machine vs hand picked
  • Social distancing in the fields, crush pads, and brewhouses.
  • Crop storage and processing concerns.
  • Packaging: obviously less draft and more to-go packs.
  • Distribution: talk to your distributors. Look for shelf space and outlets.
  • Supply chain disruptions and low inventories: some up your suppliers might not make it through these. Check in with your key support system.
  • Pent up demand release: once things start to open up, the supply chain will need to catch up. Where are your kegs?

Tanktemp May Newsletter - Expanding Your Business & Inspection Special Prices
14 May, 2019

Are You Looking at Industry-Focused Expansion?

Recently, we're seeing many of our customers expanding, and we're seeing numerous mergers.

Growth is a challenge that every winery, distillery and brewery will face at one point or another, and it can be difficult to navigate. You can become essentially a victim of your success. You find yourself simply not being able to meet market demand due to operational limitations or you want or need to increase your profits.

We are seeing groups building new tasting room locations, adding on to their existing facilities, and increasing capacity by purchasing more and better equipment to either increase their volume or to take on production contracts for other groups.

You want to grow in a managed, informed and smart way that keeps your business thriving but also gives you the flexibility to achieve your goals.  If you can increase your tasting room sales, your output or your offsite sales that is a relatively small capital expense for a larger and longer-term return.

We help breweries, distilleries and wineries across the country realize their dreams and potential with efficient and effective glycol solutions, fueled by industry expertise.

How Do You Evaluate a Chiller?
04 April, 2019

Not all chillers are created equal.

As a matter of fact, over 90% of chillers made don’t have the capacity a brewery, winery or distillery needs. There are a lot more computer rooms, fab shops, buildings, equipment and lasers in the world that need to be maintained at 60°F than there are breweries, wineries and distilleries.  So you need to know that is what most manufacturers build for, and they try to force those units to work in our environments.

There are 4 types of compressors used for cooling.

HIGH TEMPERATURE is used for product above the 60°F range.  These compressors are air conditioning parts. Think about an A/C unit for your house; this equipment wants to run at room temp, and this is what's in most chillers in the world. Over 90% of our competitors are here.

An easy way to determine if you're running A/C equipment is if the unit is using 410a.

Tanktemp starts here:  MEDIUM TEMPERATURE is used for food storage and other commercial refrigeration. The temperature is 55°F to about 0°F. We can push to -4°F/ -20°C if the unit is configured for it.

An easy way to determine if you're running medium-temperature equipment is if the unit is using 404a or 407a.

Tanktemp goes even colder with the KELVIN series: LOW TEMPERATURE is used for low-temp processes like oil/extract processing.  The temperature is below 0°F to -20°F.  Option for -40°F

An easy way to determine if you're running low-temperature equipment is if the unit is using 404a or r-136.

ULTRA LOW TEMPERATURE is used for scientific applications like cyro-freezing. Often a cascading system when one compressor is used to chill one gas while a second compressor chills another gas, allowing chilling to -40°F/C or below. This is extremely hard and expensive.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

Tanktemp only uses the best refrigeration components, designed to easily function at the 28°F degree range.  Many of our chiller will reach -20°C or -40°C, whereas most chiller couldn’t even come close.

A large percentage of our business is replacing high-temp chillers that are less than three years old, and have failed.  They simply can't keep up with work you do and the harsh environments you work in.

Think of it like this: a compact gas pickup truck will tow a 18,000LB trailer for a while, it just won’t do it well.  You will have less control, more breakdowns, more down-time, and will never make it to 100,000 miles doing that every day. And, importantly, there will be some places you just can’t go.

But a 1-ton diesel truck will do that same job and more all day, every day, forever, give you all the power and control you want, with less down time, all while being way more efficient.

Know your equipment!  High temp vs medium temp vs low temp doesn't just matter, it's critical.

Tanktemp.
Always over-built.
Never over-engineered.

Thanks for reading the new Tanktemp™ Control newsletter.  It is our intention to only email people who want to receive communications from us.  We hope you'll find our email useful and interesting, but if you do not you can instantly and permanently unsubscribe from future mailings by clicking the link at the bottom of this message.

What size is right for me?

Let's start with our portables.

The HC-53 combination glycol heater/chiller with our exclusive and time-tested Liquid Heat Pump™. This workhorse is nearly four times more efficient than traditional devices, and it delivers.  Most of our over one thousand customers run their entire wineries on one, two or three portable units.  We have hundreds of these units in the field still going strong after ten, twenty and even twenty-five years of faithful service.  These units allow you to reconfigure your floor space as needed, and they allow you to scale and grow affordably.  Need more power? Just add another unit, when and where you need it.  These are perfect for a growing winery, and one unit is sufficient to handle a 10,000-20,000 case workload.

The Duo-DX™ is our flagship device.  A direct-exchange (no glycol) combination heater/chiller, this  device is a rapid heating or cooling unit designed for use one on wine, juice or must to create a ten-degree temperature change in a single pass.  We cold stabilize faster, heat better and faster.  You can process more fruit, save tanks, and lower the overall energy usage of your facility.  The Duo-DX is the single best insurance you can have in your winery.  Control fermentation and stabilization precisely and rapidly. Stop a runaway batch on a dime.

Our super-portable lineup also includes portable heaters.  Available in 240volt and 480 volt.  These little guys throw out 9000 watts or 18,000 watts of heat to get things moving in your winery.

Stepping down in size, we have our tough and versatile super-portables.  Our 3-ton units, the HC-31 combination glycol heater/chiller and the CC-31 glycol chiller are priced thousands less than our competitors and deliver 36,000 BTU of chilling power.  The HC-31 adds the advantage of 4,500 watts of heating power.  These little guys are all single-phase are sized for for one, two or three tanks.  Large wineries use them for special lots, and brewers find them to be the perfect tool.

Our super-portable line also includes our dedicated portable heaters.  Available in 240 and 480-volt Fast and nimble, these puppies throw out 9,000 or 18,00 watts of instant heat, when and where you need it, anywhere in your winery.

Going up in size, we are offering the new YETI™ line up.  The Yeti™ by Tanktemp is our 25-horespower, semi-portable and linkable chiller solution.  Featuring the industry’s best compressors, our custom-made coils, our custom oversized heat exchangers and all the other “over-built-edness” that Tanktemp is famous for.

We definitely have exactly the right product for you.

We have everything you need to get up and running, including tons of accessories: quick connects, blower coils, and solenoid valves.  Need something? Just ask.

Nobody builds them like this. Nobody else does what we do.

NEW for 2017: All-Stainless Construction

We all love stainless steel.  Stainless is not new to us; we’ve used both stainless and aluminum over the years, building what our customers said they preferred.   Well, we heard more and more in 2016 that you want stainless, so now our default configuration for all units is stainless construction throughout.  Powder-coated aluminum units still available on request.

We are taking orders now for 2017 stainless models.  All aluminum models in stock are now on close-out, with special one-time pricing.

NEW Yeti 25-Horespower Chiller

You read it here first: The Yeti™ by Tanktemp Control is our 25-horespower semi-portable and linkable chiller solution.  Featuring the industry’s best compressors, our custom made coils, our custom oversized heat exchangers and all the other “over-built-edness” that Tanktemp is famous for.

We are known for our exclusive custom-design 5-horsepower units.  They’re efficient, bulletproof and they just run forever.  The Yeti™ is all that as well, just bigger.  We took everything that was great about our 5-horsepower design and scaled it up.

Nobody builds them like this. Nobody else does what we do.
