Improving the way we clean; accomplishing more using fewer resources.
True dry steam reaches deep into wood pores where hot water or chemicals cannot, making steam a much more effective way to remove yeast genera such as Brettanomyces from wooden barrels. Steam at a constant high temperature is proven to eliminate yeast and bacteria from various surfaces using little amount of water and no chemicals. Even better steam is the most efficient way to hydrate (swell) barrels. Hydrate and sanitize barrels simultaneously using only few cups of water. Using steam is also a great way to clean and sanitize other equipment, surface areas including tanks, floors, nooks and crannies around winery and tasting room facilities.
Food Pathogen Test Results
After receiving great feedback on our new video at recent trade shows, we made the video available in Steamericas' WIN page.
To confirm how well the Optima Steamer performs on used barrels, we purchased 2 used barrels of the same brand and history. There were both already cleaned and sanitized by the used barrel seller. We steamed one of the 2 barrels and cut both of them in half to compare. The video visually captures the benefits of steam cleaning over water based cleaning methods. Optima Steamer removed tartrates and rehydrated the barrel in minutes.
To confirm the Optima Steamer can effectively remove brettanoyces and other unwanted pathogens, Steamericas worked with a third party laboratory. The results are also available in the "Products/Services" tab of the Steamericas' WIN page.
For those who visited Steamericas' booth during the 2017 Eastern Winery Expo and Craft Brewers Conference, please be sure to mention the show special when purchasing the Optima Steamer from one of our authorized dealers to receive a free barrel cleaning tool (valued at $900).
Simplify Your Operations
The Optima Steamer saves you valuable time and unnecessary stress by providing you all the solutions to your deep cleaning, stain-removing, sanitizing, and versatile detailing needs. Without the need for chemicals and additional appliances, the revolutionary Optima Steamer encompasses the very essence of efficiency and versatility.
In most mobile wash business set-ups, the Optima Steamer can eliminate the need of the following: pressure washer, generator above 500 kva, air compressor, wash mat, water reclamation system, over-sized water tank, waste tank, and most chemicals for degreasing, washing and rinsing.
Reduce Your Costs
While each Optima cleaning system requires an initial investment, it is able to easily make up for that cost within its first few months of operation. With very little water, diesel and high quality microfiber towels, the Optima is a ready-to-go. The all-in-one system will save you money on water and an abundance of other supplies and chemicals. As you will now have one primary piece of equipment as opposed to multiple pieces, equipment, operations and maintenance costs including fuel will reduce drastically. In addition, it will be able to expand your business model with all of the new services you will be able to offer as a result.
Quite a few well known wineries on the west coast are now using Optima Steamers to clean and sanitize wine barrels and holding tanks. By switching from a standard pressure washer, wineries are able to kill bacteria without the use of chemicals, preserve and restore wine barrels all while saving money and most of all time.

True dry steam is in the form of vapor, which travels much faster than liquid water and can reach deep into harborage sites and the wood pores of barrels for the most thorough sanitation, killing Brett, Zygo and tartrates as well as countless other micro-organisms. The Optima Steamer is ideal for the wine industry, making cleaning operations throughout the facility simple and most effective.
Steam generation takes less time than heating a volume of water because it uses a fraction of the amount. As a result, steam can clean areas much faster than water. Steam at a constant high temperature is proven to eliminate yeast and bacteria from various surfaces using little amount of water and no chemicals. Using steam is also a great way to clean any nooks and crannies around winery and tasting room facilities.
The Optima Steamer is ready for all-day use in minutes, which means saving on time and energy costs. Heat from consistent dry steam can kill almost anything on contact. Steam at the molecular size of H2O can even penetrate deeper than hot water or chemicals into wooden barrels, which results in much better efficacy on spoilage yeast genera such as Brettanomyces and Zygosaccharomyces as well as food-related bacteria such as E-coli, Listeria and Salmonella. Vapor-steam can easily access and sanitize kegs and the variety of other machinery around your facility. Also, the Optima Steamer can effectively clean up to 30 bottles at once!

As the need for the most reliable, high-performance, robust steam cleaning systems continues to rise in countless industries, the Optima Steamer has once again risen to the occasion. Leading the way as the most versatile and effective steam-cleaning units in auto detailing and the food and beverage industries, the Optima Steamer continues to establish itself as the forerunner in vapor-steam sanitation with the introduction of the new Optima SE (Stainless Electric) and SD (Stainless Diesel) models.
The new stainless Optima models are ideal for high-end outfits and operations. Be it a winery or brewery, a high-production food processor (ask about our new 42kW SE!), or a contemporary auto body and detailing startup, the Optima Steamer SE and SD have the clean-cut, heavy-hitting, and sanitation power needed to keep your operation in motion. The Optima Steamer promotes better, greener business practices by: avoiding unnecessary chemical agents, reducing or completely eliminating downtime, and keeping equipment sanitized within the facility.
The new all stainless-steel models, SE and SD, are built with SAE 304 stainless steel and are now both equipped with three steam outlet valves which can all be operated simultaneously! The SE and SD’s new sleek design carries large onboard water reservoirs, as well as an all-in-one water inlet for continuous use. Not only is the new stainless series more appealing to the eye and more functional, but it is safer as well. Another great new feature of the SE and SD is a quick-activated emergency stop for heightened security in the workplace.
Along with their innovative new features, both models still deliver the Optima’s patented highest quality steam production. After a series of independent laboratory testing, the Optima’s vapor-steam has been proven to eliminate the most prominent and dangerous foodborne pathogens including, but not limited to: Staphylococcus, E. coli, Campylobacter, Listeria and Salmonella. Our new Optima stainless steel models have been reinforced and simplified, making the new SD and SE the most ergonomic and functional vapor-steam machines of their kind.
The Optima Steamer has been transforming the way that wineries clean and preserve their barrels. The Optima Steamer offers a chemical free solution for sanitizing and rejuvenating wine barrels with our dry vapor-steam. Unlike chemicals, steam penetrates an ½ inch deeper into wood pores to eliminate bacteria in just 5 minutes!
All-Stainless-Steel Optima Steamer DS-S
"Winery customers are our target market for the Optima Steamer. Steam is known to penetrate oak barrels up to ¼” into the wood, which gives a much better chance of removing Brettanomyces.”
Steamericas is proud to present the latest model of the Optima Steamer Series, the “DS-S.” Thanks to the success of the Optima Steamer DMF model and abundant customer feedback, the company sought to introduce an upgraded version of the Optima Steamer.
The Optima Steamer DS-S is an all-stainless-steel steam generator that utilizes diesel for heat. While the steam boiler performance remains the same, the DS-S model comes with much sought-after upgrades and features.
The Optima Steamer DS-S includes an over 10-gallon-capacity water tank–double the size of DMF’s water tank– while maintaining the direct water hook-up option for end users. A double-size water tank is especially advantageous to mobile operators.
By merging a reservoir tank for direct hook-up and an internal water tank, the volume of the DS-S is considerably smaller than the size of the DMF. The new DS-S model is the shape of an elongated cube, which allows for easier transportation in lower ceiling vehicles, another added bonus for mobile business operators. An additional 4th wheel makes the unit much more maneuverable. Every part of the machine is easily accessible, which drastically speeds up the maintenance process.
The boiler construction of the Optima Steamer DS-S is made of 316 grade stainless steel, which has higher resistance to corrosion than typical stainless steel. The exterior of the new model is made of 304 grade stainless steel and exudes an impressive shine.
The debut of a stainless steel version of the Optima Steamer is especially exciting for the food and beverage industries. Storage tanks used to hold fruit juice, wine, beer and other food are often made of stainless steel because of its corrosion resistance and antibacterial properties. This also influences its use in commercial kitchens and food processing plants, as it can be steam-cleaned and sterilized without any chemical products.
“The food and wine industries often prefer to use equipment and fixtures of stainless steel,” says Mark Hagg, the owner and president of American Equipment Company in Portland, Oregon, an authorized dealer of the Optima Steamer lines in the Northwest region of the US. “My winery customers are our target market for the Optima Steamer. Steam is known to penetrate oak barrels up to ¼” into the wood, which gives a much better chance of removing Brettanomyces ,” says Hagg. Brettanomyces (also known as “Brett”) is a type of wine spoilage yeast that digs into wood barrels when growing, presenting a unique challenge to winemakers.
A new oak barrel costs about $800~1,500. Moreover, if a barrel is suspected to have a trace of Brett, they cannot risk using it for aging wine as this could lead to a catastrophe of spoiling the entire batch. Steam treating barrels can potentially save wineries tens of thousand dollars if not millions. In addition to steam’s natural sanitizing power, steam uses a fraction of water to achieve similar or better efficacy. Organic wastewater management is another costly expense for food and beverage production facilities. Local authorities closely monitor the BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) level of wastewater originating from such facilities as part of the Clean Water Act enforcement. Since the steam cleaning process produces very little or no wastewater, this also leads to saving time, hassle and money.
The Optima Steamer DS-S is now available through Steamericas and authorized dealers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico. The all-electric stainless steel model, the “Optima Steamer EST-S”, is available in 5kW, 12kW, 18kW and 27kW heaters.
