SolarCraft Completes Solar Power System at Napa Valley Country Club
17 March, 2014

Novato and Sonoma based SolarCraft announced the completion of a 251 kW solar power system at Napa Valley Country Club in Napa, CA.   The picturesque, private golf course is now powered by renewable, green energy.

Solar Panels Installed at Napa Valley Country ClubThe solar electric system is ground mounted on a hillside above the golf course.  It consists of 870 high-efficiency solar panels spanning a total of 17,610 square feet.  The system’s solar electric panels are expected to generate approximately 363,000 kilowatt hours of energy annually.  Excess power generated during the day is banked by PG&E for credit towards future use.

The new solar power system allows Napa Valley Country Club to generate enough electricity each day to power over 57 average homes.  It will spare the air nearly 105 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually.  Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating more than 6 million miles of driving.

The Napa Valley Country Club will enjoy free energy from the sun and thousands in utility savings many decades to come.

State Public Utilities Commission Approves New Rebate for Solar Pool Heating
07 October, 2013

Novato and Sonoma based SolarCraft announced the State Public Utilities Commission under the California Solar Initiative Program has just approved a rebate for qualified solar heating installations on all commercial swimming pools.

Under this program 30% to 50% or more of the initial cost of the solar pool heating system will be refunded back. There is $80 million available on a first come first serve basis until the funds run out.

This program applies to all multi-family commercial, government, educational and non-profit swimming pools that are PG&E customers. Solar pool heating systems in single-family residential installations are not eligible to receive incentives.

The incentive for eligible solar pool heating systems is only available to gas customers who have a final signed-off permit issued by the appropriate permitting agency on or after January 1, 2013.

A properly sized and installed solar heating system can easily keep your pool at 78 to 84 degrees from mid-April through September, and sometimes well into October, without the use of expensive supplemental heat.

Since 1984 SolarCraft has been the North Bay industry leader in the design and installation of solar pool heating systems to commercial, governmental and institutional facilities.  They are the sole distributor of FAFCO solar water heating products in Marin and Sonoma County - the number one selling brand in the USA since 1969 and manufactured in Chico, California.

SolarCraft Donates Solar to Sonoma Garden Park - Local Park Greenhouse Now Powered by the Sun
12 June, 2013

SolarCraft, with offices in Sonoma and Novato, recently donated and installed a
solar electric system at the Sonoma Garden Park, the six-acre working farm on 7th Street East, given to the City of Sonoma by Pauline Bond and managed by Sonoma Ecology Center.

The solar power system will generate more electricity than currently used by the facility for lighting, irrigation, and ventilation of the nursery and greenhouse. Excess production will be fed back into the local utility grid, generating a bill credit which is a potential source of future revenue for the center, as well as having additional solar capacity for the installation of several greenhouses planned for the future.

The system features micro-inverters manufactured by Enphase Energy of Petaluma that will allow easy incremental expansion of the system in the future.

“We’re delighted to have SolarCraft’s solar installation at Sonoma Garden Park,” said Richard Dale, Executive Director of Sonoma Ecology Center. “Their donation offers a perfect example of community support where it’s needed; it helps with a key part of the Garden’s operations and saves us future expenses, and it leverages grants, additional donations, and in-kind support to help our Garden grow.”

Leading Shipper & Wine Storage Facility Now Powered by the Sun
09 June, 2011

Novato and Sonoma-based SolarCraft announced it has completed the design and installation of an 89.7 kW solar electric (photovoltaic) system at Wine Country Shipping in  Windsor, CA. Their facility is now fully powered by clean, solar power, saving energy and money.

The roof-mounted solar system utilizes 390 Centrosolar 230 watt panels and spans 6,831 square feet, helping to insulate and shade the building.  Additional energy is saved by the added insulation, reducing the building’s heating and cooling load.  Each panel is controlled by an individual micro-inverter manufactured by Enphase Energy of Petaluma, CA. Unlike more conventional solar electric systems, the micro-inverters will allow the rest of the solar modules to produce at full capacity no matter how many panels are soiled or partially shaded.  Micro-inverters greatly increase the overall system efficiency.

The system’s photovoltaic panels generate approximately 119,791 kilowatt hours of energy annually, providing over 80% of Wine Country Shipping’s electric needs with clean, renewable energy.  The solar power produced each day is enough to power 45 average homes and spares the air nearly 79 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually.  Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating over 5.5 million miles of driving.

Wine Country Shipping and Wine Country Cellars provide shipping and storage services for over 150 wineries, helping with Tasting Room orders, Wine Clubs, Wine Writer shipments and Seasonal Mail Order Releases.   With  25,000 square feet of temperature controlled warehouse space in two separate buildings in Windsor, Wine Country Shipping and Wine Country Cellars  provides a full range of shipping and storage options for tasting rooms, retail outlets and hotels, as well as direct to consumer wine shipping and personal wine storage.

Public Works Corporation Yard Goes Green
04 May, 2011

Novato, CA — Novato and Sonoma-based SolarCraft announced today that they have completed installation of a 23.9 kW solar electric system at City of Sonoma Public Works Corporation Yard, Sonoma, CA.  This is the second major solar energy installation for the City of Sonoma that SolarCraft has been selected to install.

Over the last few years, the City of Sonoma, in an effort to demonstrate leadership in environmental responsibility, has enacted several resolutions promoting and supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy generation, and this installataton will help the City reach its goal of  a 37.2% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from City operations. The system was financed under the federal Clean Renewable Energy Bonds, (CREBs) program.

The new system will reduce the City’s utility costs while reducing the load on the local utility grid. Excess power generated during the day is banked by PG&E for credit towards future use.

Each pair of the 102 solar panels is controlled by individual micro-inverters manufactured by Enphase Energy of Petaluma, CA.  Unlike more conventional solar electric systems, the micro-inverters will allow the rest of the solar modules to produce at full capacity no matter how many panels are shaded, and greatly increase the overall system efficiency.

The roof-mounted system utilizes U.S. manufacturer Sharp solar panels.  They cover 1,789 square feet of the roof and also help shade and protect the building, reducing summer cooling load.  The system is expected to generate 30,434 kilowatt hours annually. This is enough electricity to power more than 12 average homes, as well as spare the air of approximately 21 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually.  This reduction in CO2 emissions is comparable to the prevention of 1.4 million miles of driving over the 30 year life of the system.

The latest increases in energy rates hit California's agricultural business especially hard. If you’re fed up with watching more of your profit disappear with every turn of the electric meter, now is the perfect time to go solar. It makes perfect sense for every agricultural business two ways:

  1. State and federal cash incentives make it much more affordable and provide a rapid return on investment.
