New Feature: Per State Email Content
02 March, 2017

Recently The Wine Institute reported some changes in the way West Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission allows licensees to notify consumers of the effects of alcohol. 

Now, you can notify consumers in the state of West Virginia by including links and content in transactional emails like Order Confirmations and Shipment Updates. 

To support this new requirement, we have enhanced our Email Templates with state specific content areas. This will allow you to enter content on a state by state basis that will be added to that email template. 

Simply click on the State Content link in the email template list and then add the content you wish per state.

When an order is placed and shipped to a consumer in that state, the state specific content will be added to your email template. 

We believe this will give you the most flexibility when it comes to unique messaging to consumers as well as being able to effectively meet regulatory requirements.

Automation Rule Updates

  • The ability to check the Life Time Value of a customer when an order is placed.
  • The ability to check the value of all orders within the last 12 months.


Global Search

  • The ability to search for anything from one search field. Results are organized by order, customer, club member, wines and regular products.


Products & Inventory

  • Tag a sku as a Future Product that will allow you to display a custom message to the customer and track how many times that product has been sold.
  • Inventory updates so you can set inventory for multiple sale locations.
  • As you update your inventory, you can set change reasons which you will see in the Inventory Change Log.

Enhanced Google Analytics Ecommerce Tracking

We have enhanced our Google Analytics integration to now include Product, Order and Conversion data so you can make the most of Google Analytics!

In addition to simplyCMS' built-in robust reporting capabilities, you can now tap into a whole new set of ecommerce analytic capabilities with Google Analytics.

Google Analytics Ecommerce

With our standard Google Analytics account tracking, you can track standard website traffic using Google Analytics. We have enhanced this integration to use Google Analytics Ecommerce Tracking. 

This will track product impressions, carts, abandoned carts, completed orders and conversion details. 

Based on this data, you can develop an understanding of:

  • Which products sell well, and by inference, which products are best suited for your customer base and which are supported by your best marketing efforts.
  • The revenue per transaction, and the number of products per transaction. For example, if the number of products per transaction is lower than you'd like, you might benefit from offering better quantity discounts, or eliminating shipping costs if customers meet a minimum dollar amount.
  • How long (in time and in number of sessions) it takes customers to make the decision to purchase. If your sales cycle is stable, or fluctuates predictably based on product or season, you can use this information (in conjunction with overall sales forecasts) to make reliable predictions about revenue. If customers routinely make numerous visits before they purchase, you might think about a site design that leads more easily to your purchase pages, or options that let users compare your products and prices to your competitors'.

simplyCMS' objective is to create the simplist yet powerful direct marketing platform for wineries. Our vision is to develop a platform that enables wineries of all sizes to better manage their direct to consumer business and marketing efforts. 

Since our launch, we have had interest from wineries both small and big. Some are just getting started, some are looking for an upgrade to their website user experiences, others are looking to better enable their business.

Mobile Wallets: The Future of Mobile Payments

According to data from ITU and Pew Research, it took 64 years for the telephone to reach 40 percent market penetration, and nearly 20 more to reach 75 percent. But the adoption of new technologies has sped up considerably these days. The same rate of Internet adoption happened in less than 15 years, and mobile device adoption has been far faster, with smartphones and tablets hitting the same milestones in under a decade and increasing exponentially.

Today, mobile devices are everywhere. Pew Research reports that as of January 2014, 58 percent of American adults own a smartphone, and 42 percent own tablets. What’s more:

  • 63 percent of adult mobile phone owners use their phones to go online
  • 34 percent of cell owners go online mostly with their phones, rather than a desktop or laptop computer
  • 29 percent of mobile phone owners say their device is “something they can’t live without”

Among emerging technologies, one of the newest is mobile payments. New technologies are rapidly evolving that allow mobile device owners to make secure online purchases, and even in-store purchases, through their smartphones or tablets. With so many aspects of our daily lives tied to digital devices, the future of payments is going mobile.

Why I built the wine industries first fully integrated direct marketing solution.

I struggled to find the right solution for my clients. Some were too big and offered too many features that overwhelmed our clients. Others had the tools that might work for now but clients would outgrow the solution and have to migrate to another platform. Smaller solutions constricted the wineries growth by not having the sophistication or feature set that enabled wineries and helped them grow their business. The larger ones where expensive, clunky and difficult to use and required a significant dedication of resources to get the site launched and then an ongoing effort to keep it up to date. Nothing seemed to be a good short and long term solution.

Most wineries have websites and offer visitors the ability to purchase their wines online but how easy do you make it to create a purchase?

Easy to find what they are looking for

Create easy to understand menu items and categories so visitors know exactly where to go to find what they are looking for. Place your wines in categories that your visitors will understand. Red, whites, sweets etc so visitors know where to find the wines they are looking for. Also, use something like shop or purchase for your main menu item so users know where to find the shop.

Easy checkout

Don't make your customers go through the process of creating an account if all they want to do is make the purchase. Guest Checkout has proven to decrease shopping cart abandonment drastically. Make it as simple as possible for the user to complete the purchase.

Make the checkout button easy to find! Make it a bit bigger than the other buttons on your pages and even a different color to draw attention to it.
