NEENAH Packaging has expanded its BELLA® Label Papers line with new label papers designed for efficient, reliable performance on high-speed premium beer bottling lines. 

Few applications ask more from a premium paper than a beer label. High-speed bottling and packaging lines are unforgiving, and labels must perform in refrigerators and coolers. BELLA Labels are designed to be reliable during production, and stunning on shelf.m

BELLA Label Papers perform extremely well on high-speed presses and labeling lines. Package the Promise: Creating Brand Allure

Designers, printers, and brand managers are turning to uncoated paper for high-value print packaging to communicate brand value. Premium brands make big promises to their buyers. Those buyers expect packaging that reflects their personal values and self-image. It is vital that the package that surrounds them lives up to those promises and maintains that allure.

POWER OF PREMIUM

Premium = High Quality Not High Cost

Packaging is a utilitarian necessity. For many years product manufacturers put its principle purpose— labeling and protecting contents for distribution—ahead of its marketing potential. That has changed as crowded store shelves mean packaging carries much greater value and importance. Packaging must now meet the needs and desires of consumers by packaging the brand promise. It is perhaps the most essential tool any successful brand manager has to convey the product’s value and image. Designers, brand managers, and printers understand this.

“Premium Brand” means more than high-priced goods. It suggests “high-value” products, too. Premium labels must appeal to loyal brand enthusiasts, such as parents who desire the kid-friendly tablet for their child’s entertainment and education as well as to the millennial shopper looking for a new moscato or prosecco to sample. Consumers purchase goods and services that say a lot about who and what they are. Savvy brand consultants and designers build brands and package them to create allure.

Consider Whole Foods. People shop there not only because they prefer organic foods for their families, but also because it is an attractive and sophisticated place to shop. Whole Foods’ house brands are elegantly packaged. Their shelves are stocked with beautifully packaged products. Customers are willing to pay top price for everything from bread to a small vintner’s bottle of wine and chemical-free skincare products. Whole Foods customers expect more from the goods they buy—and they are willing to pay more for them.

VIP’s Get Exclusive Preview of Game of Thrones 

In celebration of its highly anticipated Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones, HBO presented a lucky few with a VIP pass to ‘the game.’

The exclusive kit housed a personally engraved iPad with Season 6 loaded and ready for binging, and a pair of Beats™ by Dr. Dre to ensure viewers wouldn’t miss a word of the deadly game. 

The custom box design, which won the 2015 award for best Rigid Paper Box by the Paperboard Packaging Council, was a collaborative effort between the team at HBO and Taylor Box Company.

Though only 35 kits were to be produced, Julie Passey, Director of Design and Engineering for Taylor Box said there was still a challenge of timing, “This was a complex box to produce. The box is built as a base tray with two three-sided hinged lids. An inner tray rests on two ribbons and raises up to present the gifts as the lids are opened. Hidden magnet closures keep the doors closed. And we had to turn it around in just three weeks.” 

When searching for a box wrap Passey looked for a paper that would align with the vision of the elegant, mysterious kit, and something that would perform on press for the numerous production techniques that would be used.

Passy worked with Neenah to create a custom 9pt metallic color box wrap with a pearlescent sheen, which would then be silk screened, debossed and foil stamped, “The paper was great to work with, it has a nice iridescent coating and a luxe feel. And the customer service we received from Neenah Packaging was key to our on-time delivery.”

Ideas for Digitally Printed Short-runs and Packaging

Just because your next project doesn’t require big quantities doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on design. Let’s talk digital printing. The ever-advancing technologies for both equipment and substrates have made this production process an increasingly accessible, cost-effective and creative option.

Neenah’s new “Explore 4” promotion shows you how to use the advantages of digital printing with creative use of colored and textured papers to elevate all types of short-run and packaging projects. Neenah Grows Premium Packaging and Technical Products Platforms with Agreement to Acquire FiberMark

ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA – July 20, 2015 (NYSE:NP) – Neenah Paper, Inc. today announced it had signed a definitive agreement to purchase all of the outstanding equity of ASP FiberMark, LLC ("FiberMark") from an affiliate of American Securities LLC for $120 million. With annual sales of over $160 million, FiberMark is a specialty coating and finishing company with a strong presence in luxury packaging and overlapping technical product categories. The company sells globally from six production facilities in the US and one in the United Kingdom.

"FiberMark is well known in the marketplace for its high touch service as well as a meaningful breadth of premium coated, textured and colored products. The acquisition adds new capabilities that will further accelerate our strategy to expand in targeted growth areas like premium packaging and performance materials, and complements previously announced strategic investments supporting the continued growth of our filtration business," said John O’Donnell, Chief Executive Officer. "The combination of FiberMark and Neenah increases the size and our reach in many of our addressable markets and provides opportunities to accelerate growth with a wider range of capabilities and products to better serve our customers. From a financial standpoint, the investment represents an attractive use of capital with a mid-teen rate of return, is not dilutive to our EBITDA margins and will be immediately accretive in year one."

The Company indicated it expects one-time costs in 2015 of approximately $7 million for transaction fees and integration, with synergies exceeding $6 million per year within three years. Ongoing accretion (excluding one-time costs) is expected to be over $0.40 per share.

The acquisition will be financed approximately equally between cash on hand and borrowing against the Company’s revolving credit facility and is expected to close on July 31, subject to customary conditions. Additional details will be discussed in the Company’s second quarter earnings call on August 6th.

Working with a liquor distributor, he developed a limited-quantity of specially packaged white rye whiskey.Studio on Fire of MPLS executed exquisite letterpress printing on this project.

In her book, Brand Thinking (2011), Debbie Millman, president of the design division at Sterling Brands (NY) explains how the relationship between the traditional “consumer” and the brands that they LOVE has evolved. She says people seek meaningful connections with the products they use because they believe those products help give shape to their personal identity.
