Our Work Begins Where the Pavement Ends

INTRODUCING RHIZO-GEN ACCESS™
Half the price, twice the organic matter and beneficial soil biology!

GENESIS IS ADDING MYCORRHIZAE TO ITS EXPANDING PRODUCT LINE
FOR FALL COVER CROP APPLICATIONS

For centuries natural means of nutrition from cover crops have allowed plants the benefit to grow to their fullest potential.

Genesis understands soil biology and the important roll it plays both in plant and human health as well as financial stability for sustainable farmers to continue for centuries to come.

ACCESS™  is a seed coat for cover crops of all selections. You simply coat the seeds to be sown with our proprietary Rhizo-Gen Mycorrhizal components and your seeds will access the nutrients that you already have in your soils.

Proper seed coating is by far the most efficient and economical method to inoculate cover crop seeds with beneficial fungi. This mycorrhizal product is an extremely efficacious selection of species in extremely high quantities. The results speak for themselves. Simply put, cover crops grow larger providing more vegetative and root mass releasing far more nutrients that your grapevines can access using this product. The same mycorrhiza that needs to support grape vine health in your vineyard is the same as your cover crop when inoculated. The symbiotic relationship will provide your vineyard access to nutrients that you will have with an extremely healthy cover crop in your vineyards.

The biggest single fallacy that we hear in the grape industry is "we have plenty of natural mycorrhizae in our soil, we don't need any more". If so, then why were the controls in the trials showing 50% more stress verses the applied? Test your vineyard for yourself; send root samples to a specialist reputable in assessing beneficial organisms, start there. Then call us to help build your soil biology to the highest levels for sustainable results, year after year!

Grape growers can reduce their costs substantially by reducing the applications of fertilizers, while increasing soil biology and fertility.Equate the cost benefits of producing 6 tons of organic matter with 100 pounds of "Max Organic Seed" per acre, verses the cost of purchasing, loading, and spreading composts that take several years to work into the soil. Also, one must question the parentage of the compost material you are bringing to your property!

Example:
5 tons compost per acre @ $50.00/ ton = $250.00/acre.
5 tons compost per acre @ $50.00/Ac. = $50.00/ Acre Cost to Spread.
Total cost before overhead $300.00 / Ac.

Example:
100 pounds cover crop seed $50.00/ac. ...= $50.00
Genesis "Access"...................$50.00/ac.    = $50.00
Application of cover crop.......$50.00/ac.    = $50.00
Total cost before overhead...........................= $150.00/Ac.

Half the price, twice the organic matter and beneficial soil biology!
This leads to sustainable farming where we are building soil biology not destroying it!

PennzSuppress D: Dust Suppression & Control
Dust. Tiny airborne particles that can cause big problems. In addition to being a serious health hazard, dust costs millions of dollars each year in damage to equipment and machinery. On dirt roads, at construction sites, and commercial and industrial facilities, out of control dust and soil erosion pose a threat to our environment as well.
Cost effectively managing dust control & erosion
Dust causes various problems. Vehicular traffic disperses excessive amounts of dust into the environment causing air pollution respiratory and other health problems, visibility hazards, crop damage and complaints from residents and businesses. The EPA has strict open-air dust control regulations in place, and companies which do not abide by the law may be struck with large fines. With the trend toward stricter enforcement of health, safety and environmental regulations, PennzSuppress® D provides a cost-effective way to reduce dust-related health and environmental concerns, while complying with clean air and water requirements. PennzSuppress® D works by agglomerating smaller particles into larger particle masses that are less susceptible to form airborne dust. Our product will ensure that you not only meet regulatory requirements, but will also improve surface appearance, extend equipment life, increase productivity and increase efficiency in the long-run. PennzSuppress® D is performance-proven to reduce dust emissions by 98%.

SNCA Products
SNCA Products
PZS Stabilization LLC is proud to introduce SNCA Products to its portfolio. The SNCA Products’ SGA line is a -3.5 PH semi-noncorrosive acid with multiple uses ranging from replacement of hydrochloric acid to treatment of burns. Seasoned chemists have disbelieved this product could exist because its properties are so unique. We anticipate the SGA solutions will become commonplace in the near future.

This grapevine was grown in a nursery for Spring Mountain Vineyard. The soil used was common in the industry, peat, perlite, sand, wood shavings. Also the nursery applied their suppliers mycorrhizae.

This grapevine was grown in the same nursery, same exact rootstock for Spring Mountain Vineyard. The soil used was Genesis Soils and the plant was inoculated with Genesis Rhizo-Gen mycorrhizae and beneficial bacteria. It is critical to understand the soil must have certain components in it to aid in proper results seen here.

We again show the values of our Genesis Soils. 10 corn seeds were planted in each container. The left trial is NOT inoculated with Genesis Rhizo-Gen, The trial on the right IS inoculated.

This grapevine was the one with little to no roots coming from the peat pot. NOT inoculated with Genesis.

This grapevine is the one with the massive root system as depicted in the above picture. This grapevine is twice the size and a generally healthier plant. This plant WAS Genesis Soils.

SGA-1
SGA-1
SGA-1 is designed for the oil and gas industry to be even more environmentally proactive. While it has many applications, SGA-1’s primary purpose will be to replace toxic hydrochloric acid in the hydraulic fracturing process of oil and gas extraction. One of the largest companies uses 7 million gallons of hydrochloric acid per year. Unlike hydrochloric acid, SGA-1 has no adverse environmental impact. In addition, because SGA-1’s properties are noncorrosive to human skin or mucus membranes at a low pH, it is safe for workers to handle and will not burn like some acids.

SGA-1 Replaces Hydrochloric Acid in the Hydraulic Fracturing Process
12 April, 2013

Because there is no alternative, the oil and gas industry currently use millions of gallons of hydrochloric acid and other toxic chemicals in the hydraulic fracturing process of oil and gas extraction. PZS Stabilization LLC is pleased to announce it has obtained global exclusive rights to distribute SGA-1, a new product on the market that will replace hydrochloric acid in the hydraulic fracturing process. SGA-1 is a semi noncorrosive acid with a low pH that is an environmentally-safe alternative.

SGA-1 has no adverse environmental impact. The basis for the SGA-1 technology is a patented stabilization and production process related to the H9O4 molecule and isolation of Hydronium, the ion that determines the pH of acids. SGA-1’s base materials consist of Type 1 Ultra Pure Water (

Even though SGA-1 is a semi noncorrosive solution, it is safe for workers to handle. Whereas other acids, including hydrochloric acid, can cause burning, SGA-1 has a corrosive nature to skin comparable to water with a level 0.02 on a scale of 0 to 5. Also, when mixed with water, SGA-1 causes no exothermic or excessive heat reactions. Because it has the acidic level of water, SGA-1 eliminates many hazardous conditions associated with use, handling, storage and transportation of conventional acids.

“SGA-1 will be an important change in the way the oil and gas industry does hydraulic fracturing,” said Bruce Coulthard, President of PZS Stabilization LLC. “It is readily biodegradable and breaks down to water and oxygen. We know the oil and gas industry tries to use products that leave a zero footprint but until now there were no effective products other than toxic alternatives. SGA-1 will dissipate and leave no trace it was ever present, unlike hydrochloric acid.”

Eliminate Cork Taint!
28 March, 2013

All vintners agree that one of the hardest problems to prevent is wine developing a musty or moldy off-odor after bottling. The condition, referred to as “cork taint,” is caused by 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA) fungal strains found in cork. SGA-2 is designed to eliminate cork fungus and thereby, prevent cork taint. Vintners can easily treat corks with SGA-2 at the bottling site to eliminate cork taint and increase wine quality, consistency and profit.

Fungal strains which cause cork taint include Penicillium (four isolates), Trichoderma (two isolates), and Acremonium, Chrysonilia, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Mortierella, Mucor, Paecilomyces, and Verticillium (one isolate each). These strains, however, are all killed when their host corks have been treated with SGA-2 prior to bottling.

SGA-2 is effective because its unique chemical properties are hostile to the genetic composition of fungal cells. Specifically, each cell has a protective coating composed of a cellulose-type membrane which is composed principally of water. SGA-2 dehydrates the membrane as well as the cell’s protein resulting in cellular destruction.

In an eight month study using SNCA Products, corks with detectable levels of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA) using GCMS techniques were soaked in various concentrations of SGA-2. The particular SGA-2 concentration applied was determined by each cork’s pH as being less than 0, 1, 2, 3 or 3.5. Following treatment, the corks were used to bottle several varietals of red and white wines. Every 30 days, a sample of corks were removed and tested. Eight months after treatment, the remaining corks still had no detectable levels of 2,4,6-TCA and no detectable levels of odor.

A Revolution in Dust Control - PennzSuppress D
06 November, 2012

Bruce Coulthard, president of PZS Stabilization, talks about the revolutionary dust control product PennzSuppress D.

Dust is a problem in many industry sectors, but it has not been tackled seriously until relatively recently. This could be because the industries concerned had other priorities, or because the 'solutions' available were either not effective, or too expensive. PennzSuppress D removes all the obstacles to cost-effective dust control, says Bruce Coulthard, president of PZS Stabilization. "PennzSuppress D is patented technology. It's structurally superior, it's 30-40 percent less expensive, and it's the only prime coat approved by the EPA. I have not been able to find a comparable product in the marketplace, anywhere."

PennzSuppress D is based on water emulsified paraffin wax resin, which can be effortlessly applied using proprietary water trucks. It contains no damaging solvents or asphalts, so it is environmentally benign. It soaks into the surface layer where salts in the soil deactivate the oxygen, enabling the resin to dry and lock hard. "It does not wash away," says Coulthard. "It has a crush rate of 600 to... read the entire document here.

As the Dust Settles
08 August, 2012

Dust control and road stabilization are major issues in the United States. Twenty years after its invention, PennzSuppress D is finally being made available to a wider marketplace. Bruce Coulthard, president of PZS Stabilization, talks about this revolutionary product...

Dust is a major problem in many walks of life, from mining and agriculture through to the timber industries and even the military. Many products on the market attempt to tackle some aspects of the problem, with varying degrees of success. Only now becoming recognised beyond the north east United States, PennzSuppress D is highly effective across all dust control and road stabilization applications and is safe to use and environmentally benign. So why is this product, which was developed nearly 20 years ago, still a newcomer to the marketplace?

“PennzSuppress D was originally designed, invented and patented by Pennzoil in the early 1990s to reduce float dust in mines, to protect the workers from black lung disease and reduce the risk of explosions,” explained Bruce Coulthard, president of PZS Stabilization, the company bringing the product to market.

“Pennzoil invested some $30 million developing the product and working aggressively with various state and local government bodies in Pennsylvania to gain product approval for its use in a variety of applications. However, Pennzoil merged with Quaker State in 1998 and then became part of Royal Dutch Shell in 2002 and had to divest certain domestic assets in order to comply with US Department of Justice Requirements.”

PennzSuppress D was one of the casualties and was sold to American Refining Group (ARG). For ARG, however, the product represented a nominal percentage of revenues and was peripheral to their lube oil refined product mix.

ARG first limited its sales and marketing of the product to the north east of the United States, and eventually decided to sell it. Coulthard was part of a small consortium that understood its potential and believed it could deliver significant environmental benefits. PZS Stabilization was granted exclusive sales territories in the US, Canada, Mexico and South America.

PennzSuppress D is based on water emulsified paraffin wax resin which can be effortlessly applied using proprietary water trucks. It contains none of the usual highly damaging solvents or asphalts. It soaks into the surface layer where salts in the soil deactivate the oxygen, enabling the resin to dry and lock hard.

“The only thing that can reactivate PennzSuppress is more PennzSuppress,” Coulthard continued, “so two or three coatings over a period of days produces a really tough surface. It has a crush rate of 600 to 700 tons which is exactly what is required for .... click here to read the full document.

New Product Virtually Eliminates traditional Hydro-Seeding Applications
09 July, 2012

In a collaboration with Genesis Soils, dust control and soil stabilization specialist PennzSuppress has announced the introduction of PZS/Bio-Gen.

Due to the increased need for aggressive mine tailing remediation and erosion control, PennzSuppress D has been combined with mycorrhizal fungi and beneficial bacteria and grass seed in a liquid combination which virtually eliminates the need for traditional hydro seeding applications in most situations.

Mycoremediation/phytoremediation is the process in which beneficial natural occurring organisms are incorporated into a medium that will allow for aggressive growth of the site specific grasses. This combination is also applied by helicopter for remote sites.

The combination can be used on all erosion control soil stabilization requirements for all uses, but is extremely valuable in mine tailing remediation, due to the biological components that will extract harmful levels of toxic minerals through aggressive photosynthesis.

The companies are also incorporating conifer species seed into the mix, such as sitka spruce in Canada.

PennzSuppress actually increases seed germination as a stand alone product.

PennzSuppress From a Historical Perspective
03 May, 2012

I believe it is pertinent that all parties understand this history, in order to realize why such a wonderful product is so little known.  At PennzSuppress Corp., we are dedicated to making PennzSuppress D, the premier dust suppression and erosion control product on the market.  We know it is the most effective and environmentally friendly product around.  It has simply been, hugely under-marketed, until now!

PennzSuppress D was originally invented by Pennzoil to reduce the exposure of “float dust” to workers in the mining industry, (black lung disease), and address the “float dust” concern regarding reducing the fuels from the dust to significantly avert mining explosions. To invent a product that would control dust and be safe for the workers is exactly what Pennzoil accomplished. The benign nature of PennzSuppress allows for dust suppression in mines without harming the workers. The wax paraffin resin is a non asphaltic compound that actually works. PennzSuppress not only works inside the mines but provides an almost impenetrable surface that sheds water off of the roads without erosion occurring during the process. To have a 600 ton crush rating is exactly what is required on mine haul roads, PennzSuppress provides just that.

Erosion control, prime coat application, mine tailing remediation, dust control and aggregate stabilization all with an environmentally responsible patented product.

Our product has been out of the mainstream of the aggregate industry for a number of years (as it has been out of most industries, because of the former owners).

It is important to keep in mind, that while PennzSuppress Corp. is a relatively new company, we purchased a highly successful product in January of 2011 with over 20 years of science and history.  PennzSuppress D was invented around 1990, by Pennzoil, Corp. which began to aggressively work with various state and local governing bodies, to have the product approved for various applications.  After Pennzoil merged with Quaker State and then became a part of Shell Oil, they were forced to divest certain domestic assets, in order to comply with the US Department of Justice’s anti-trust requirements. PennzSuppress D was therefore sold to American Refining Group (ARG), who had begun to provide the pure paraffin resin, which is the primary input of the product.  For ARG, this product represented only about 1% of revenues and was a total outlier in their otherwise lube oil refined product mix.  ARG, promptly began a campaign of reducing sales and only selectively marketing the product (primarily in the Northeast), until they finally decided to sell the product line.  While we retain a close relationship with ARG as our manufacturer, they were simply not comfortable in the role of marketing the product.

Road Dust Suppression: 9 Things You Need to Know Before You Coat Your Roads This Year

PennzSuppress D, was invented around 1990, by Pennzoil, Corp. which began to aggressively work with various state and local governing bodies, to have the product approved for various applications.  After Pennzoil merged with Quaker State and then became a part of Shell Oil, they were forced to divest certain domestic assets, in order to comply with the US Department of Justice’s anti-trust requirements.

  1. Is this material an emulsion, and if so, is it a petroleum or coal based product and are they using fatty acids/tall oils in the product?

PennzSuppress D, is a water based, highly paraffinic petroleum resin emulsion. It is manufactured from Penn-Grade crude oil, contains NO asphaltenes, and adheres to 9001-2000 quality standards.
  2. If it is petroleum based, what fraction of the petroleum is being used in the product (paraffin, wax, bitumen, etc.)

PennzSuppress D contains about 65% solids, a significant portion of which is our unique Kendex resin. The resin makes up over half of the non-diluted product.
  3. The MSDS mentions a couple of types of surfactants that are in the product, we would need to know the specific chemicals being used.

Due to the years of scientific development and testing, which have gone into the patenting of PennzSuppress D, we are unable to share specific details, concerning the various chemicals utilized in our product, without first entering into a strict confidentiality agreement. Our MSDS has been provided and provides information on the benign nature of the product. It is safe to say that if any “poisonous” chemicals were used in the production of PennzSuppress D, then the finished product MSDS would contain mention of them.
  4. Where is the product used now and who are some of the primary customers, and can we get more information on California’s approval of the product.

PennzSuppress D, was developed in the Northeast, about 20 years ago, for the mining industry (primarily coal at that time). It has since been used in major mining operations throughout North America, as well as major power plants, steel production, the oil and gas industry, pipe yards, etc…. At one time, PennzSuppress D was used in the aggregate industry, but due to the marketing limitations of the prior owner, it has not been utilized extensively in that industry in recent years. As for California, the original CEPA certification from 2001, and the most recent renewal are attached. Also, the original Caltrans approval letter is attached.

The following are potential issues with this product that I recommend we evaluate further before using this material:

  5. The MSDS sheet has some pretty strong precautionary statements concerning employee exposure to the material that would need to be evaluated by our health professionals.

The nature of the MSDS, is based on an abundance of caution. The precautionary measures listed, are because of the category of petroleum based products, which PennzSuppress D shares. Our product is somewhat of a square peg, being put into the proverbial round hole, in that regard. It is important to realize that according to OSHA, IARC and the US National Toxicology program, none of the components contained in PennzSuppress D are carcinogenic and the product is less toxic than aspirin or table salt, or sugar. It is non-irritating to the eyes, and contains no volatile organic compounds or solvents (see the attached “PennzSuppress Health Environmental Information” sheet).

  6. The MSDS sheet indicates that the material is regulated under the Oil Spill Act and CWA and releases that can enter waterways are reportable to the National Response Center, and that the material should not be used in a manner that could result in dispersal or release of the product to waterways. This seems to contradict the use of the product as a dust control agent on haul roads where storm water runoff could carry the material to adjoining waterways.

Although PennzSuppress D is not designed to enter an aquatic environment while in its concentrated or uncured phase, testing indicates low aquatic toxicity if the material was, by chance, to enter waterways. The Regulation pertains tothe application stage only,if applied during an unpredicted, sudden weather event and against manufacturer installation instruction, there may be runoff. Once cured, PennzSuppress D does not re-emulsify or leach, and is non-hydroscopic. The primary active ingredient consists of a non-water soluble paraffinic resin. Once cured, it allows safe use without an adverse impact or leaching into ground water and retention ponds. TCLP tested safe to EPA standards and guidelines.
  7. Many of the State agencies are sensitive about the types of chemical additives used for dust control where there is a risk of the material reaching waterways and impacting aquatic organisms. This has been an issue previously within our company related to chemicals contained in specific water treatment additives The region environmental managers will need to tell us whether this material must be reviewed by the State environmental agencies before we could consider using it at a specific plant.

As mentioned above and attached, PennzSuppress D is approved by the California EPA and approved as one of the first dust palliative products allowed by Caltrans.
  8. There have been some non-company fish kills and other environmental incidents associated with storm water runoff from fresh application of coal and petroleum emulsion products so we would need to be sure the use of this product would not create similar issues.

PennzSuppress D is non-mutagenic and low in aquatic toxicity (refer to the attached Health and Environmental information).
  9. We need to understand the product better and make sure the region environmental managers are engaged to help evaluate whether the potential issues listed above are real concerns or not before moving forward.

It is our intent to be very open, concerning PennzSuppress D. Any negative connotations, related to the MSDS, are because of the abundance of caution which we take as the owner of the product. We strongly believe that PennzSuppress D is the only solution which combines environmental safety, with a product which actually works.

We are proud that we generally reduce annual water consumption, associated with simply watering roads, by about 80%. While the water does not harm the environment, the fact that it is being pulled from the ground as a most precious natural resource in many arid areas, and placed on a road so that it will simply evaporate, can be quiet harmful to the life of aquifers, ponds, etc…. And as we all know, simply watering the road to keep dust down, simply does not work! The road winds up in the ditch, and the water in the atmosphere, while the dust is still present shortly after the watering. The various limitations and environmentally unfriendly nature of many widely known “dust suppression” products, such as lignin, chlorides, etc… are widely known to anyone who has tried them.

Still not convinced? Give Bruce Coulthard a call today to find out why you should be using PennzSuppress D for your dust suppression; (707) 287-6111

PennzSuppress D: Our Work Begins Where the Pavement Ends
27 March, 2012

PennzSuppress D is a uniquely formulated, patented, very effective dust control agent for treatment of aggregates, soils and ores. It is sold in a concentrate form, and is diluted with water for application to roads and other surfaces where airborne dust is undesirable. Our standard dilution rate is four parts water to one part product (4:1 dilution), however, in arid environments, greater amounts of water may be used to lower the viscosity and improve the product penetration into the road surface.

The water acts as a carrying agent allowing PennzSuppress to penetrate into the road surface. As the dilution penetrates the water evaporates allowing the active ingredients within the PennzSuppress formulation to agglomerate the fine dust producing particles and bind the aggregate to build a durable cohesive surface. The active ingredient, consisting of a non-water soluble petroleum resin, remains in the road surface improving the water repellency of the road while creating a more predictable driving surface in wet conditions and helping to minimize the detrimental effects of spring season freeze/ thaw cycles.

In addition to being non-carcinogenic, the petroleum resin is also non-water soluble. This allows for a durable dust control agent that does not wash away during precipitation events.

Product Benefits

The unique properties and ingredients of PennzSuppress allow for an effective dust suppressant that is safe for workers and the environment. All testing done to determine product safety, health, and environmental attributes has been done by third party laboratories. Human health and safety benefits of the product include the following:

Non-toxic • Non-mutagenic • Non-carcinogenic •
Non-irritating to eyes • Non-flammable • Non-corrosive to metal

Although no one should ingest PennzSuppress due to the laxative properties that are inherent in the petroleum resin, toxicity test results on PennzSuppress indicate it is less toxic than table sugar. In addition to the non-carcinogenic properties that were previously mentioned, PennzSuppress is also non-mutagenic. Animal test data also indicate that PennzSuppress is non-irritating to the eyes. Water used in the product formulation also contributes to the non-flammable characteristics of the product. Testing of the corrosive properties of PennzSuppress indicate it is non-corrosive to metal.

The fate of PennzSuppress within the environment has been a principle point of focus on PennzSuppress which prompted extensive testing. In fact, PennzSuppress is the first dust suppressant to be certified by the California Environmental Protection Agency for various claims relating to the water quality and air quality benefits provided by the product. Environmental attributes of PennzSuppress include the following:

Not a hazard to Ground Water • Non-inhibiting to Plant Growth •
Low Aquatic Toxicity • Non-Toxic to Aquatic Sediment • Non-Hazardous Waste • Effective in Reducing Dust

The first dust suppressant certified by the California EPA
08 March, 2012

WHAT IS PENNZSUPPRESS D?

PennzSuppress D Road Dust Suppressant is a unique, patented product designed to “safely” control dust, stabilize soil and control silt run-off from unpaved roads, parking lots, and surfaces. With the continued trend toward stricter enforcement of health, safety, and environmental regulations, PennzSuppress D provides a cost-effective way to reduce dust related health and environmental concerns, and aids in complying with clean air and water requirements.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT?

PennzSuppress D was developed to address the concerns of air and water quality management agencies to provide safe and effective control of dust and silt run-off. Many dust suppressants of the past were made with inadequately refined, potentially carcinogenic petroleum oils that are diluted with flammable, highly volatile solvents. Other suppressants contain chemicals that reduce dust, but are reported to be corrosive to metal on vehicles and other equipment which come in contact with treated areas. PENNZSUPPRESS DOES NOT WASH OFF LIKE OTHER DUST SUPPRESSANTS!

NON-TOXIC TO ANIMAL LIFE

When a dust control agent is applied to roadways, or other dusty areas, there is often a concern about its effect on the wildlife in the vicinity, as well as on humans applying and working with the material. This is a fundamental concern that was considered when the PennzSuppress D formula was designed.

NON-CARCINOGENIC

None of the components of PennzSuppress D are classified as carcinogens according to OSHA, IARC, or NTP, therefore the road dust suppressant is considered to be non-carcinogenic.

NON-CORROSIVE TO METAL

There is often a concern about possible damage to vehicles and equipment operated on roads that have been treated with dust suppressants. To evaluate the corrosivity, or potential corrosivity, of a dust suppressant toward metal, corrosion rate tests can be conducted. When tested as a concentrate in the presence of carbon steel, PennzSuppress D yields a corrosion rate of 3.5 mm/year, which indicates very low corrosive tendencies.

DOES NOT INHIBIT PLANT GROWTH

PennzSuppress D is not considered harmful to plant growth. PennzSuppress D can be used to effectively control dust on roads near vegetation, without leaching of damaging chemicals into surrounding soil. Also, by holding fine dirt particles on seeded slopes, PennzSuppress D can temporarily bind soils to allow seed germination.

LOW TOXICITY TOWARD FISH

When areas near waterways are treated for dust control and silt run-off, there is a concern that the material applied may be washed into waterways by rain that follows application. Pollution of water and its effects on aquatic life are of increasing concern to the public and to regulatory agencies. The chronic values for the 96-hour test of the diluted PennzSuppress D were 130 mg/L for fathead minnow and 194 mg/L for rainbow trout. EPA assigns a rating of “low concern for Ch V’s > 10 mg/L. From the results of these chronic tests, acute aquatic toxicity LC50 values were also calculated and found to be 510 mg/L for fathead minnow and 913 mg/L for rainbow trout. EPA rates LC50 values of > 100 mg/L as a “low concern.” A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Research Information Bulletin #84-78 classified LC50 values of 100-1000 mg/L as “practically non-toxic.” Based on these results, PennzSuppress D exhibits a low level of toxicity toward the fish tested.

Evaluating Plant Moisture Stress with the Introduction of Rhizo-Gen Mycorrhizal Components
12 October, 2011

I. Objective:

To quantify levels of stress in four to eleven year old Cabernet vineyards using a Plant Moisture Stress Indicator, (PMS), also known as a Pressure Bomb. The objective was to compare the differences of stress using beneficial fungi compared to non inoculation.

II. Materials and Methods:

The product used is Genesis Soils Rhizo-Gen. Rhizo-Gen is a trade name which includes an extremely high grade of mycorrhizal inoculum with five species of indigenous mycorrhizal species for grapes. Also inclusive are several proprietary components that differentiate Genesis Rhizo-Gen from a rudimentary approach. Simply put, mycorrhizae alone will not give you the results that this combination offers.

Each vine was inoculated with Rhizo-Gen liquid through the existing drip system by means of an Ag Solution Master in field mixing unit. Inoculation took place in early July, 2008.
Vines were pre irrigated with two gallons of water, then the inoculation followed with an additional one gallon, followed by a post inoculation irrigation of two gallons. Careful consideration was taken for the following 30 days to add additional two gallon irrigations two weeks apart to ensure adequate moisture at the root zone to aid in the colonization of the mycorrhizae.

Fertilization was corrected by using California Organics Phytamin 4-3-4 liquid. Applications were on a regular basis as recommended by the label each time irrigation was used. Correction was from a generic synthetic high P and N which inhibit mycorrhizal hyphal colonization to the organic based fertilizers which allow colonization to occur. All six vineyard blocks had two control rows next to each other in various locations in the vineyard blocks. All other rows were inoculated.

PMS readings were taken by the same employee, at the same vines, at the same time each day. Commencement of readings was 7-2-09 and completion was 9-25-09. The readings were a total of 432, control, inoculated. Air temperatures were taken simultaneously.

The vineyard location is Spring Mountain Vineyard and the application was under the direction of Ron Rosenbrand, vineyard manager.

III. Test Progress:

During the data accumulation period, careful consideration was given to keep the normal irrigation regimes in place to keep the stress levels in check. The PMS readings that are typical in this hillside vineyard are 10-14 Bars for this time of year. Once the readings reach 15 or greater, water is applied to reduce the transpiration rate. We were working within a 10-14 bar active window during the summer months.

IV. Results:

Consistently all readings that were Genesis applied were 1-2 bars lower than the control rows. This equates to a 25-50% reduction in stress levels as evidenced by the PMS readings. The estimated water savings were estimated at an early stage to be 20-40%.

V. Observation:

It is clear the use of Genesis Rhizo-Gen has significantly reduced the stress level and water needs for this hillside vineyard. Most interesting from my perspective was the rate of recovery in the Genesis vines after irrigation was applied. This tells us that the vines that were Genesis applied are able to store more water and nutrients due to their excessive healthy root structure. By increasing the root volume, naturally you will increase the roots water reservoir that each plant needs to use during excessive stress periods. This in simple terms allows the plant to continue its natural growth and maturity without unwanted periods of stress.

Roots are what bring life to the plant, when stress occurs especially in young plants the root will simply stop growing, get progressively smaller until it is able to access water. This natural phenomenon of constriction in roots is similar to girdling a tree by cutting back or off its water supply. A root when growing in a healthy environment will grow; let’s say the size of a pencil. When excessive stress affects the root it will grow smaller in size, like a pencil lead. When the root resumes natural growth again, it increases in size back to the size of the pencil. The constriction that has occurred in the root system is permanent. Plants will naturally grow new roots in time, but damage has occurred. Many farmers are fooled by this into thinking the plant is showing signs of stress thinking it needs more water, and this misread leads to more irrigation and potential drowning of the root systems.

This information that we have gathered is ground breaking for Genesis, simply due to the fact we only have had data for vineyards from 1-4 year old. We know the results are astounding from nursery level through 4 year plants. Blocks from Spring Mountain Vineyard varied from 4th leaf all the way to 11th leaf.

It is mandatory to understand that mycorrhizae alone will not give you the results we know through many crops, grapes included. It is the holistic approach of the many other components included that separate Genesis Rhizo-Gen from other rudimentary attempts. This differentiates Genesis from others.

VI. Conclusion:

It is evident the difference is substantial. The water savings that are now available due to the efficiencies of the plants due to the introduction of Genesis Rhizo-Gen are also very appealing financially. In areas where water is at a premium or only available by building reservoirs, now the vineyard owners have a very attractive option.

Fruit maturity and flavors were attained easily, as the vines were on the healthy curve of stress and their was no additional delay at harvest.

We were asked three years ago by the vineyard industry to specifically show the differences, control verses Genesis Rhizo-Gen mycorrhizal applications in Napa vineyards to better understand specifically the differences to better evaluate its importance. This report is a very large step in that direction as far as water conservation and plant stress is concerned.

There are literally some 50,000 technical papers on the effects of beneficial fungi on agricultural crops. We know plant health is foremost in the grape industry for the production of world class wines. Mycorrhizae and its natural associates are at the pinnacle of healthy productive soils.

FALL MYCORRHIZAL APPLICATIONS ARE NOW!
30 September, 2011

After a long growing season and deficit irrigation practices prior to harvest, it is now time to replenish your vineyards. Fall root growth is a very important time to add Genesis Rhizo-Gen Mycorrhizae and beneficial bacteria to your vines. Simply inject our product while you perform your post harvest irrigations, we also recommend a balanced post harvest nutrient program to help the vines through winter. This practice will help the vines spring growth before you begin your spring nutrient programs.

Benefits of a healthy foodweb

A healthy foodweb occurs when:

All the organisms the plant requires are present and functioning.

Nutrients in the soil are in the proper forms for the plant to take-up. It is one of the functions of a healthy foodweb to hold nutrients in non-leachable forms so they remain in soil, until the plant requires the nutrients, and then the plant "turns-on" the right biology to convert the nutrients into forms the plant can take-up (but which are typically very leachable).

The correct ratio of fungi to bacteria is present, and ratio of predator to prey is present, so soil pH, soil structure, and nutrient cycling occur at the rates and produce the right forms of nutrients for the plant.

The functions of a healthy foodweb are:

Retention of nutrients so they do not leach or volatilize from the soil. Reduction or complete deletion of inorganic fertilizer applications is possible.

Cycling nutrients into the right forms at the right rates for the plant desired. The right ratio of fungi to bacteria is needed for this to happen, as well as the right numbers and activity of the predators.

Building soil structure, so oxygen, water and other nutrients can easily move into the soil and into deep, well-structured root systems. Current concepts of plant root systems as being at the surface of the soil is the result of current agricultural and urban practices, not a real condition of plants. Roots should go down into the soil for at least several to 10’s and perhaps 100’s of feet, but the compaction that humans impose on soil results in toxic materials being produced, preventing good root penetration. The only way to deal with this is to have the proper biology build the structure in the soil again, so oxygen and water can move into the soil. When the biology is functioning properly, water use is reduced, the need for fertilizers is reduced, and plant production is increased.

Suppression of disease-causing organisms through competition with beneficials, by setting up the soil and foliar conditions to help the beneficials instead of the diseases.

Protection of plant surfaces, above or below ground by making certain the foods the plant surfaces release into the soil are used by beneficial, not disease organisms, making certain that infection sites on plant surfaces are occupied by beneficial, and not disease-causing organisms. And by making certain predators that prefer disease-causing organisms are present to consume disease-causing organisms.

Production of plant-growth-promoting hormones and chemicals can result in larger root systems, although whether forcing larger root systems on plants is a positive results needs to be understood.

Decomposition of toxic compounds

Organisms exist in populations that are balanced according to optimal growth conditions for your type of plant.

" Mycorrhizal inoculation is showing clearly that using a mycorrhizal inoculum like theirs, at the rates they recommend incorporating into the soil, reduces water use and water stress in wine grapes. A number of researchers around the world are showing that mycorrhizal fungi are critically important in becoming sustainable. Use of pesticides and inorganic fertilizers suppress the growth of these water and labor-saving beneficial fungi. More practical demonstrations of benefit, such as the work being done by Genesis-Soils, is very much needed. "

WHAT IS VERMICOMPOST?
Vermicompost contains not only worm castings, but also bedding materials and organic wastes at various stages of decomposition. It also contains worms at various stages of development and other microorganisms associated with the composting processing.

Earthworm castings in the home garden often contain 5 to 11 times more nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium as the surrounding soil. Secretions in the intestinal tracts of earthworms, along with soil passing through the earthworms, make nutrients more concentrated and available for plant uptake, including micronutrients.

PennzSuppress D

SO WHAT IS PENNZSUPPRESS D?

PennzSuppress D Road Dust Suppressant is a unique, patented product designed to “safely” control dust, stabilize soil and control silt run-off from unpaved roads, parking lots, and surfaces. With the continued trend toward stricter enforcement of health, safety, and environmental regulations, PennzSuppress D provides a cost-effective way to reduce dust related health and environmental concerns, and aids in complying with clean air and water requirements.

For the wine industry, SGA-2 is designed to be used as an antimicrobial application to corks to Eliminate Cork Taint! It can also be used in the winery as a clean-in-place product to eliminate TCA. Using SGA-2 will eliminate vintner worries about corks or the bottling environment harming wine after bottling.

SGA-3 will be used by the horticultural industry. Its unique chemical properties allow it to safely eliminate botrytis and powdery mildew along with a host of pathogens that have not been treatable including phythopthora ramorum, the cause of sudden oak death. This SGA-3 product will increase survival in the newest technology of tissue culture cloning of Redwoods and other species from 50% to 95%.

Because SGA when mixed with water shows that SGA has a corrosive nature comparable to water with a level 0.02 on a scale of 0 to 5, skin toxicity tests show that SGA-4 causes no exothermic or excessive heat reactions. Thus, for burn victims, SGA-4 can be used as an antimicrobial to eliminate blistering and infection. With application to a new burn, skin will not bubble and crack.

SGA-5 can be used in the injection system of cars and trucks to achieve greater gas mileage by 30% and reduce emissions by 70%.

PZS Stabilization is pleased to do its part in protecting the environment in so many industries. Contact us for more information about the SNCA Products line of SGA solutions and how it can be integrated into your business.
