Perfecting Nature Through Innovation

Our patented Innocork® TCA extraction process is used on every natural cork and natural cork disc that we produce. By removing potential TCA and other off-aromas, this patented process has revolutionized what quality means for natural cork closures. All of the technical corks we produce have the advantage of undergoing our patented Vapex® process, which effectively extracts TCA from cork granules before they are made into technical corks.

In Search of the Perfect Cork

The company offers premium closure options to the wine industry, including natural corks, technical corks, bartops, Nomacorc® synthetic corks, tin and polylaminate capsules, wirehoods and foils, and screwcaps. In addition, the company also offers both an individually guaranteed line of natural and technical corks.

Individually Guaranteed TCA Taint-Free Corks
image

The DS100 natural cork was the first natural cork with non-detectable TCA in the industry. DS100 consists of a non-destructive and non-invasive analysis that is carried out by a panel of trained sensory specialists. The panel analyze 100% of the corks in a lot and reject any cork with a sensory deviation due to the TCA or other off-aromas.

After the corks have been in a controlled environment for 24 hours, the corks are analyzed sequentially by two different panelists. Should one of the panelists detects TCA or any other off-aromas in any single cork, the cork is rejected and removed from the lot.

TCA Taint-Free Technical Corks

With an increasing number of the world's wines now closes by technical corks, Cork Supply is proud to help raise quality standards in this important market. While standard practice in he industry is to evaluate TCA levels by bulk soaks, Cork Supply has pushed the standard further in the interest of delivering superior technical corks. Every VINC cork's releasable TCA level is guaranteed to be at or below 0.5 ng/L.

Since Cork Supply oversees the harvest and production of their natural cork every step of the way, all remaining cork materials from that production are of very high quality. Cork Supply manufactures technical corks with 100% of these high quality remaining raw materials, making the new facility an integral part of the company's commitment to high quality standards and environmental stewardship.

As part of our commitment to our clients, we are the first company in the industry to institute a "Bottle Buy Back" guarantee. If you receive a cork taint claim on any bottle sealed with our DS100 or VINC corks, we will buy the bottle back at the retail price of the wine.

How Cork Quality is Managed from Forest to Bottle
26 November, 2019

At Cork Supply, all of the cork wood that is extracted is submitted for consistent analysis throughout the different stages of cork production. It is this commitment to rigorous quality control checks at every step that ensures quality from forest to bottle.

A team of specialists at Cork Supply work in collaboration with forest owners to ensure that best practices in forest management are used. Together we work to protect and enhance the quality of the raw materials. The quality of the cork wood is always analyzed prior to its extraction, and this data is used to map cork appellations and forest productivity over time. When the right combination of time and care is taken at the source with raw materials, it ensures that quality will be evident in the final products.

Cork Supply USA and Tonnellerie Ô Continue Support for UC Davis Viticulture and Enology by providing Principles and Practices of Winemaking Textbook to Students
07 December, 2017

December 7, 2017—Benicia, CA— Cork Supply USA, Inc., and Tonnellerie Ô, a subsidiary of Cork Supply, are proud to announce their second annual donation to the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology for the purchase of required textbooks for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Enology VEN 124, a wine production class. The company initiated the program in 2016 to provide funding for copies of the highly regarded text, Principles and Practices of Winemaking.

“We’re delighted that Cork Supply and Tonnellerie Ô continue to offer their generous support of our students,” said Dr. David E. Block, professor and chair of the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology.  “Principles and Practices of Winemaking is a key text that students use for multiple courses in our program, but especially wine production. It is the most comprehensive text of its kind in the world, and one that many of our students will keep at their desk for their whole career—not just in school. We thank Cork Supply and Tonnellerie Ô for their continued support of our students and our programs.”

UC Davis professors Roger Boulton, Vernon L. Singleton, Ralph E. Kunkee and Linda Bisson were co-authors of the textbook. The course includes a winemaking lab component http://catalog.ucdavis.edu/programs/VEN/VENcourses.html at the university’s Teaching and Research Winery, the most advanced and sustainable winery in the world: http://wineserver.ucdavis.edu/about/facilities/Winery.html

Students are also grateful for the donation. “My finances are limited, so receiving this textbook as a gift was especially helpful as I look forward to the course," said Masatoshi Hara, a first-year graduate student at UC Davis.

Third-year undergraduate student Rose Ballantine agrees with Hara. "I'm a new student and I hope to be a winemaker someday—the class and this textbook are vital to my academic success," said Ballantine.

“We’re delighted to continue our annual donation for the purchase of Principles and Practices of Winemaking. We hope it helps aspiring vintners start off on long, rewarding careers in the industry,” said Greg Hirson, Senior Director of Technical Services. A UC Davis alumnus, Hirson earned an MS degree in Viticulture and Enology.

Cork Supply Introduces VINC Micro-Agglomerated Corks
22 February, 2017

With an increasing number of the world’s wines now closed by technical corks, Cork Supply Group is proud to help raise quality standards in this important market. While standard practice in the industry is to evaluate TCA levels by bulk soaks, CSG has pushed the standard further in the interest of delivering superior technical corks. Every VINC cork is evaluated for TCA not by lot, but on an individual basis, cork by cork.

VINC is the first new product line to be launched from the company’s dedicated technical cork facility, Cork Supply Portugal 4 (CSP4). The new facility is an integral part of the company’s commitment to high quality standards and environmental stewardship and is managed by a seasoned team of experts with a combined 40 years of experience in the production of technical corks. Executive Director, Antonio Bastos and Production Supervisor, Manuel Antonio Ferreira, now operate one of the world’s most advanced technical cork factories. The new line strengthens Cork Supply’s vision to produce technical cork closures that add value to the marketplace.

“The VINC product line is the result of the work of our focused research and development team,” says Jochen Michalski, CSG’s founder.  “We opened CSP4 last year to be able to offer taint free, best-in-class micro-agglomerated corks produced from 100% of our own high quality raw cork materials. As Cork Supply integrates rigorous quality controls during harvesting and production of our natural corks, all remaining cork materials from that production are of very high quality.”

The TCA taint free VINC line of technical corks is a result of the new, improved VAPEX process from the Cork Supply research and development team. VAPEX is a batch cleaning process that reduces TCA on cork granules through effective mass and heat transfer.

The VINC family currently includes three different technical corks, with additional products still in development:

VINVENTIONS AND CORK SUPPLY JOIN FORCES TO LAUNCH NEW GENERATION OF WINE CLOSURES — SÜBR
17 November, 2016

Paris, France (Nov. 17, 2016) — During a joint presentation held at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, Presidents and CEOs of two global leading closure providers to the wine industry, Heino Freudenberg of Vinventions and Jochen Michalski of Cork Supply Group, have announced the market introduction of SÜBR, a next generation wine bottle closure made of natural cork and biodegradable materials. The product has been jointly developed by both companies, who will market it through their own sales channels. Companies target sales of over 500 million units by 2021.

SÜBR is the result of several years of development and is now ready for final market validation. With the majority of its composition based on natural cork and the remainder consisting of biodegradable materials, this new closure offers the benefit of being glue-free, recyclable and long-term biodegradable. With the high quality granules sourced from Cork Supply’s premium natural wine cork production and Vinventions' patented production method, corks are TCA-taint-free, with levels less than 0.5 ng/L. Rivercap Absolute Green Line, Partners with Snoqualmie Winery, Washington State’s Largest Certified Organic Vineyard
15 September, 2016

September 15, 2016—Benicia, CA—Rivercap Absolute Green Line, maker of the new generation of eco-designed wine capsules, is proud to announce a partnership with Snoqualmie Winery. The capsule company, located in Benicia, California, and the winery in Paterson, Washington, have joined forces to produce a sustainable wine package with the release of Absolute Green Line (AGL) capsules.

Increasingly, consumers demand sustainably produced products, and winemakers are eager to extend their environmentally responsible farming and winemaking methods to wine packaging. Rivercap AGL is an ecological alternative—a capsule fashioned with bio-based polyethylene (PE) produced with sugar cane and water-based inks, instead of oil and solvents. Sugar cane is a renewable resource, and like all plants, it absorbs green-house gases during cultivation. This, together with the move from solvent-based inks to water-based inks, means that the Rivercap AGL capsule reduces its emission of CO2 by 80%.

The first Snoqualmie wines to feature the new capsule are the 2014 red wines and 2015 white wines. Snoqualmie winemaker Joy Andersen said, “I’m delighted that Rivercap’s Absolute Green Line capsule is now a part of the Snoqualmie wine package. The AGL capsule provides a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the winery’s commitment to fostering a sustainable environment.”

The new eco-friendly capsules were part of a natural progression in Snoqualmie’s investment and commitment to fostering a sustainable environment. In addition to the capsules, the winery’s packaging now includes the following eco-friendly elements:

• Glass bottles that are among the lightest in the industry (397g) and result in a 13% reduction in carbon emissions.
• Labels and other printed materials that are on 100% post-consumer waste materials stock.
• Corks and labels that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, guaranteeing sustainable practices at the source of origin.
• Corks that are also certified by the Rainforest Alliance, an international group committed to conserving biodiversity through sustainability.
• Grapes that are certified organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (ECO tier).

In anticipation of the release of the new eco-friendly packaging and capsules, Rivercap and Snoqualmie are kicking off a new advertising campaign in October; the ads will be featured in several wine industry trade and consumer publications.
