Cloacina is a manufacturer and purveyor of package wastewater treatment plants and equipment located on the Central Coast of California. It is owned and managed by a family of licensed operators and maintenance mechanics, now three generations deep, with over a century of combined wastewater treatment experience. Cloacina’s ownership team began installing, operating and maintaining competitors’ winery wastewater treatment systems in 1999. Dismayed by the poor quality of equipment available, they launched Cloacina LLC and perfected a line of wastewater treatment plants for wineries: The Stage I®, MEMPAC® and Industrial Batch Reactor®.

Cloacina’s winery models treat high-strength process waste with various flow ranges and discharge requirements and produce high-quality effluent suitable for reuse. All tankage and equipment skids are fabricated from stainless steel to facilitate long-term treatment while maintaining the high aesthetic standards of wineries. The energy-efficient winery models are designed to handle the cyclical organic and hydraulic loading associated with wine making. An integrated pH adjustment system automatically controls pH levels and the SCADA/controls package allows personnel to monitor and make changes to the system through any device with an Internet connection.

Stage I ®
Stage I ®
Cloacina’s Stage I® is a complete package wastewater treatment plant designed for small facilities and those with a limited footprint or future plans for expansion. Recognizing that a pump station is necessary for most wastewater treatment systems, Cloacina developed a compact unit that provides high-quality treatment in the footprint of the average pump station. Most Stage I® models are incorporated into a standard lift station vessel and designed to treat less than 2000 Gallons Per Day (GPD). The unit can operate indefinitely as a treatment system, meeting an average discharge limit of 150 Total Suspended Solids (TSS)/150 Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). Should flows, loading or discharge requirements dictate additional treatment equipment, the Stage I® is easily converted into a lift station to supply the new downstream treatment system. Cloacina’s Stage I® includes a cutting-edge SCADA/controls package that allows facility staff to remotely monitor and make adjustments to system parameters, collect information for reporting, view on-site video and verify the completion of routine maintenance. Stage I® models can be self-contained or designed to fit into an existing buried vessel. Cloacina’s Industrial Batch Reactor® (IBR) is a packaged wastewater treatment plant that treats industrial and municipal wastewater utilizing Activated Sludge and clarification in a single vessel. All interior and exterior components are manufactured from high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials. The tank and equipment skid are fabricated from stainless steel. Cloacina’s IBR is ideal for clients needing a wastewater system with a small footprint that can pre-treat wastewater prior to sewer disposal, sub-surface reuse and frost and/or dust control water. The system includes cutting-edge SCADA/controls which allows the facility staff to remotely access, monitor and make changes to the plant, collect data for reporting, view live on-site video and verify the completion of routine maintenance. The IBR is factory-tested and completely assembled prior to shipment. The IBR is easy to install, operate and maintain. Models are available for buried, partially-buried and above-grade installations. The Industrial Batch Reactor® can be installed in compact and remote locations. Cloacina’s Industrial MEMPAC® Membrane Bio Reactor is a package wastewater treatment system designed to treat high-strength process waste for clients with stringent discharge requirements or the desire to reclaim treated effluent for reuse. The Industrial MEMPAC® features a pre-treatment process upstream of the activated sludge treatment plant that stabilizes fluctuating influent strengths and loading while improving downstream treatment and performance. The downstream equipment incorporates primary treatment, activated sludge and membrane clarification. Unlike activated sludge wastewater plants that utilize a traditional clarifier, membrane treatment does not allow solids to carry over into the effluent. The Industrial MEMPAC® is designed to treat high-strength influent to meet strict discharge requirements and standards for reuse. All interior and exterior components of the MEMPAC® are manufactured from high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials and all tankage and equipment skids are fabricated from stainless steel. Prior to shipment, all components are factory-installed and wet tested. The compact design of the Industrial MEMPAC® makes it ideal for projects with small footprints and remote locations. COMING SOON TO THE WINE COUNTRY INDUSTRIAL PARK IN SONOMA!

The Wine Country Industrial Park in Sonoma, CA ordered a 30,000 Gallons per Day (GPD) Mempac™ Industrial Package Wastewater Treatment Plant. The property owner has multiple winery tenants and the Mempac-I will allow process waste from the tenants’ production to meet sanitary sewer discharge requirements. This is the first Mempac™- I to be installed in Sonoma and will be commissioned before crush.

One of the projects currently on the factory floor is a 15,000 Gallons Per Day (GPD) MEMPAC – Industrial Package Wastewater Treatment Plant. This unit is being manufactured for a winery near Livermore, CA and will be the first Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) to be installed in Alameda County! Cloacina’s MEMPAC – I will allow the client to meet regulatory agency requirements for re-use and reclaim 100% of their treated effluent for irrigation or sanitation purposes.


WEST RICHLAND COMES TO VISIT

Staff members from the City of West Richland, located in Washington, recently traveled to the Central Coast of California to tour Cloacina’s manufacturing facility. The Mayor, Brent Gerry, the Public Works Director, Roscoe Slade, the City Engineer, Drew Woodruff, and Sewer Supervisor, Randy Paulson came to preview their MEMPAC™-Industrial (I) membrane bio-reactor package wastewater treatment plant, which will serve existing and future wineries as well as other industrial clients near Red Mountain, an American Viticultural Area in Benton County, Washington.

The 50,000 Gallons per Day (GPD) membrane bio-reactor will produce re-use quality effluent and includes an aerated sludge system designed to process the winery sludge for composting purposes. The MEMPAC™-I will be installed and operational in time for the 2016 crush.

The Wagner Family of Wines selected Cloacina to provide the package wastewater treatment plant for its newest winery located in Cordelia, CA. Cloacina is underway on the design of the 50,000 Gallons per Day (GPD) MEMPAC-Industrial model, complete with the DRYPAC™ aerated sludge handling system.  The MEMPAC-I, designed for industrial clients with high-strength, fluctuating loading, produces high-quality effluent for reuse by combining primary treatment with activated sludge.

 The system is slated for installation in March of 2017.

A 25,000 Gallons per Day (GPD) Mempac®- M is headed to Paradise Ranch Mobile Park in Castaic Lake, California!  Their existing wastewater treatment plant had aged and was failing to meet discharge requirements.  Paradise Ranch’s new package treatment plant was designed to meet tight budgetary requirements without compromising the quality of the selected components or the overall system.  This is another Cloacina plant helping to solve California’s water crisis by reclaiming treated effluent that the client can use for irrigation purposes!

Cloacina welcomed Lynn Compton, the Fourth District Supervisor for San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande, Oceano, and Nipomo on Thursday, March 24, 2016. Ms. Compton was given a tour of Cloacina’s production facility and was able to view both residential and industrial models of the MEMPAC® Membrane Bio Reactor.

Cloacina’s MEMPAC® Membrane Bio Reactor is a package wastewater treatment system designed for clients with stringent discharge requirements or the desire to reclaim treated effluent for irrigation purposes or ground disposal. The MEMPAC® incorporates primary treatment, activated sludge and membranes for clarification as the final stage of treatment. Unlike activated sludge wastewater plants that utilize a traditional clarifier, membrane treatment does not allow solids to carry over into the effluent The
MEMPAC® is designed to treat high-strength influent to meet strict discharge requirements and the standards for reuse.

Ms. Compton praised Cloacina for their advances made in wastewater reclamation and the creation of 15 new jobs in San Luis Obispo County since March of 2015.
